@PierreVLeBrun@byterryjones 84 makes a lot of sense for a 32-team league:
16x2=32 out-of-conference games (home+away)
8x3=24 out-of-division games
7x4=28 in-division games (2 home, 2 away)
Not sure how this will work with eventual expansion…
@DavidMarois22 @MtlfanSakic Good for BOS, bad for Swayman. Pretend it’s 10M signing bonuses for 8 years, and he defers the first 3 yrs to a one-time pmt of 30M in yr9
The AAV drops to 8.8M
In equivalent $ today, Swayman’s PV of this deal drops from 67.9M to 59.6M
That’s without inflation
Hard to give up 8M
@MtlfanSakic Great write up! This might be outside your wheelhouse, but could a player defer salary to a later year when they’re in a different state, to face lower income taxes?
@MaybeItsIan Surprisingly, there aren’t too many pending UFAs on bad contracts this year (with playoff teams). Maybe Carter? Forbort?
Some fun options if you’re looking at 2025 UFAs, with the possibility of a summer buyout.
@AdamWylde@walsha What kind of trade off is there between AAV and contract structure? Are teams typically saying AAV should drop x% if you want a buyout-proof contract?
