Sports make a great game - but a terrible God.
Listen carefully if you’re an athlete…
One day the season will end.
One day the career will end.
One day the applause will stop.
If your identity is in the game, you’ll feel lost when the game is gone.
But if your identity is in God, the game simply becomes a platform.
Sports are meant to be played.
They were never meant to be worshipped.
Train hard.
Compete with excellence.
Honor God with your effort.
But never forget:
Your purpose is bigger than your performance.
“You shall have no other gods before me.”
{Exodus 20:3}
"Today everybody wants to talk about their rights and their privileges.
50 years ago, people talked about their obligation and responsibility.
You have obligations to other people.
If you want to fail, you have the right to fail.
You do not have the right to cause other people to fail because you do not do everything to the very best of your ability."
Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association All District Teams released and it includes five from Monroe County. The group will choose the top players from all four districts for their annual all-star game.
Yes, as a recently retired girls coach in Indiana, I have known this for a while. The list of reasons is long and not for any one specific thing. But this saddens me as there is nothing like playing for your school and community.
According to a story on AP today ... Indiana has the fourth biggest decline in girls high school basketball participation since the year 2000, down 39% .. over 4,000 less girls playing! In the US, numbers are down 45%. I wrote a column on this a year ago. https://t.co/w8WdfX3KxH
