@ryangrim breakfast and lunch in california is now free for all public school students. I still have a problem with my child taking 1 bite and rushing off to recess lol.
Don’t take it personally, Mom.
Cross cultural research suggests that “Dada” is very commonly the first person that babies identify by name. And the reason may actually be beautiful.
But first let’s explore the question of when a word is really a word.
Language development begins with cooing and the babbling of repetitious syllables. “Dada” is very commonly one of these initial vocalizations, even before the child actually associates it with a particular meaning. (Sorry, Dad, but it’s probably not an expression of preference.)
Around 9-12 months, however, babies do start associating meaning with sounds. And dad frequently IS first in line here. Why?
One theory is that babies are so closely bonded to their mothers early in life that they actually view their mothers as an extension of themselves.
This line of thinking suggests that Dad may be identified first because he’s the first person identifiable outside of this precious mother-baby unit.
So not only is the identification of fathers likely not an expression of preference, it actually may say something very special about just how closely mother and baby are bonded. And that’s amazing. ❤️
Who did your child identify first?

I got a D+ in Operations. Lots of reasons why, but mostly I didn't try hard enough and was able to get away with it because it was an online course. 20 years later...I have now had several leadership positions in various Supply Chain functions, including Operations.
Flex your lowest academic low score.
To remind us that almost everyone fails at some point in life but it isn't the end of the road. Just a memory in the end.
Mine was 27/100 in Engineering Math 2, just a year after I'd scored 99 in 12th boards. Much needed kick in my butt.
Elmo's new year resolutions:
1. Be kind to Rocco
2. Learn 5 new words in Spanish with Rosita
3. Say "Elmo loves you" to someone new every day
4. See a rock eat a cookie
“You can’t demand a service while simultaneously degrading those that provide it to you” — in the chaos that comes with the “holiday spirit”, be kind to everyone that is working so you can enjoy you holiday.

You may be hearing the argument that before the rise of modern commercial infant formula, babies all ate breastmilk and everything was great. As a historian of infant feeding, let me tell you why that’s not true.
