Today we launched Kiharu Masomo Bora 2025 at Mugoiri Mixed Day Secondary School. The event was graciously attended by Ms Nancy Njau, CEO Family Bank, Mr Shaka Kariuki - Chairman, Kuramo Capital, Dr Purity Ngina - CEO NGEC among others guests attended.

The Programme covers all the over 10,000 learners in Day Secondary Schools within Kiharu.

Some of the components of the Programme include;

1. School Fees is capped at Ksh 1,000 per term for all Learners in Day Secondary Schools in Kiharu.

2. 100M Kitty within 2 years for Infrastructure development for all Day Secondary Schools. Focus on Laboratories & Computer Labs.

3. Provision of Revision books.

4. Uji and Lunch provided for 6 days a Week including Chapati Lunch for the Last Friday of the Month in all Day Secondary Schools.

5. Schools with Remedial or Tuition capped at Ksh 1,000.

6. Prize Giving ceremonies in the two Sub Counties fully funded.

7. Motivation including Dubai trips for Principals of the best & most improved Day Schools in every ward - 12 Principals (2 per the 6 Wards). Teachers of best improved Subjects to Mombasa.

8. Covers all learners including those not from Kiharu as far as they're in Schools within Kiharu.

9. Additional allocation for Activity Budget to boost what is disbursed through capitation.

10. Among others.

Today I joined H.E Sima Sami Bahous, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of @UN_Women, Amb. Paula Narvaez (Chile), Amb. Michael Gort (@CanadaUN), H.E. Amb. Alicia Buenrostro (Mexico) @MexOnu, and H.E. Amb. Leila C. Lora-Santos (the Philippines) @PHMissionNY, and other colleagues in celebrating the International Day of Care and Support.

The theme of this year’s celebration is transforming care systems for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

I shared Kenya’s experiences during development of the draft National Care Policy including the importance of having an enabling constitutional framework, credible data on the state of care and support, and the need to recognize the care and support sector as a public good worthy of investment by Governments.

I thanked @unwomenkenya @OHCHRKENYA @ILOKenya and other partners for working closely with the Kenya State Department for Youth and Gender Affairs, and the President @WilliamsRuto’s Women’s Rights Advisor @ChiggaiCS to develop the draft policy.

It is every Ambassador’s joy to host one’s countrymen and women in one’s country of accreditation.

This week has been my week with @UN Resident Coordinators.

Coming hot on the heels of my day out with Dr. Stephen Jackson, the UNRC in @UNinKENYA, today I hosted 3 UNRCs- Amb. @JeanKamau, the UNRC in @UNGuyana, Mr. George Wachira @WachiraGeorgeW, the UNRC in @UNEswatini and Mr. Chris Mburu @ChrisMburu, the UNRC @UN_Congo at the @KenyaMissionUN.

RC Amb. Kamau was, until recently, a colleague in the @ForeignOfficeKE. She served with distinction as Kenya’s Ambassador to South Africa and the African Union. In the early 2000s, Amb. Kamau and I worked together in the governance and human rights sector in Kenya.

RC Wachira left an indelible mark @UNDP through his peace and development work, including at the Partnership for Peace that spearheaded mediation efforts following the post-election disturbances in Kenya in 2007/8.

Apart from leading the UN Country Team in the Congo, RC Mburu is an international human rights lawyer with a passion to promote learning and teaching of the French language in Africa.

Over and above our shared Kenyan heritage and professional pasts, we all share a determination to make this world a better place through a stronger and reformed United Nations, of which the UNRC system is an important component.

181 Member States voted for KENYA 🇰🇪 today at the @UN General Assembly to join the Human Rights Council for the 2025-2027 term.

This overwhelming vote is evidence of the global community’s confidence in Kenya’s track record in promoting human rights and our ability to do more, as a country and as part of the global community, in areas where more needs to be done.
