On the 4th of December 2024,I was inducted into the medical profession.
It still feels surreal🤭

"Explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for absenting yourself from Tuesday's evening games."
While people online are busy blaming a dead 25-year-old doctor for "not taking his health seriously" or claiming he didn't follow due process, this is the actual reality Dr. Wisdom Oghenetega faced at the Military Hospital in Port Harcourt.
A formal query. Signed by a Lieutenant.
Tega was actively deteriorating and fighting for his life, but the administration was more concerned about his "ability to function under constituted authority." This is the toxic, militarized chokehold Tega was trapped in.
The narrative that he ignored his own health is absolute gaslighting. Tega did not neglect himself; he was actively blocked, questioned, and pressured by a rigid administrative system while trying to manage his illness.
This was the query he received. See his official response attached below. 👇
When I was posted to Nevy school hospital at Abak, Akawibom state, I saw shege.
From the when I got into the commandant's office, I knew I won't survive here with the type of temperament I have.
I asked how much I will be paid. The told me 5k from the hospital and 40k from the head quarters.
I told them the money is very small, considering I will be the only doctor in the compound as they haven't had a doctor in a year.
The commandant told me that I don't have a say, that I'm here to serve not to be served or pampered.
They gave me conditions on how I will be joining parade 3 times a week and evening games.
Those that know Abak, know how far it is from Uyo. So getting another side job was hard and besides I won't have chance at all.
I worked there for 3 months and was only paid 15k as the head quarter wasn't paying as at that time.
I contemplated quitting Service and starting all over again if my relocation doesn't work.
After the 3rd month, my relocation work and I absconded for that prison.
Those guys literally owned me for 3 months 😢
Here is the exact timeline leading up to Dr. Wisdom Oghenetega’s tragic passing:
• Thursday, May 28: Tega collapses. He undergoes blood investigations within the facility and immediately requests sick leave. The request is denied.
• Monday, June 1: Still seeking clearance, he completes an ECG and Chest X-ray to finish the full list of requested medical investigations.
• Monday, June 8: Despite being visibly ill, he is forced to do a 24-hour call alongside a pregnant Medical Officer.
• Tuesday, June 9 (AM): He is heavily reprimanded by superiors for sleeping at 10 PM in the call room instead of staying awake until dawn. He openly reminds them again that he is sick.
• Tuesday, June 9 (PM): Exhausted and ill, he misses mandatory evening games.
• Wednesday, June 10: While still battling symptoms, the administration serves him a formal query for missing games.
• Thursday, June 18: Tega submits another formal letter requesting leave.
• Friday, June 26: After a three-week administrative delay from his initial request, his sick leave is finally approved, and he is allowed to go home.
• Saturday, June 27: He arrives in Calabar and immediately proceeds to Asi-Ukpo Memorial Hospital for further medical tests.
• Monday, June 29: Tega passes away.
The claim that Tega didn't take his health seriously is completely false. He did every single investigation they asked for. He followed every protocol.
The only thing he didn't do was rebel.
@nurse_kidda It is not a competition or race..While waiting to get internship placement get yourself busy with learning a course, skill etc..At the end of the day it is not "who started first?" it is how well.
When you start internship you will forget so fast the "waiting phase".All the best❤️
There is a doctor that just recently lost his life.
He graduated from DELSU in 2024.
He asked to be released because he was ill.
He had to wait three weeks. Three weeks.
He got home on 26th June.
He died 29th.
This is exactly why I will never blame any healthcare professional who chooses to leave Nigeria.
You cannot keep asking people to sacrifice their health, their peace, and sometimes even their lives for a system that barely remembers they exist.
To every healthcare worker reading this: your patients need you, but you also need yourself. Prioritize your health. Rest when you're ill.
Hospitals will replace you. Your family never will.
Fly high, Dr. Wisdom Oghenetega 🤍

It was great joining Njideka Akunyili Crosby — a gifted Nigerian-born, Los Angeles-based artist — to unveil our first portrait together. This piece reflects so many chapters of Michelle and my story, and we’re thrilled that it will be on display in the Hope and Change lobby at the Obama Presidential Center starting this Juneteenth.
I once asked my mum why she never remarried after becoming a widow at just 25. She said it took her years to grieve, and when she was finally ready, the men who came insisted she abandon her children. She rebuked them and held tightly to the fruits of her first love, to us!
Happy 50s Birthday to the woman who single-handedly sacrificed so much that my siblings and I may live and stand tall today!
Her love, strength, meekness, and selflessness, even toward strangers, continue to leave me in awe. I pray God keeps blessing and shielding my Mama. May she reap the beautiful fruits of her labour in abundance.
The 50s have never shone so bright! ❤️🥳
🚨 BREAKING: 2 Doctors Brutally Assaulted at Warri Central Hospital.
We have just received disturbing photos and reports of a savage attack that occurred yesterday on two medical doctors at the Central Hospital, Warri.
A Senior Registrar in Paediatrics and a House Officer have both been brutally assaulted at Central Hospital, Warri, Delta State.
The House Officer wasn't even on duty. He was only there to help a sick colleague when a father, who had just lost his baby after two months in an incubator, turned violent.
The doctors did everything humanly possible to resuscitate the child, but the father pounced on them immediately after the baby passed. He slapped the Senior Registrar and landed heavy blows on the House Officer before security could even blink.
It didn't stop there.
Before he was finally subdued, the man went on a rampage, shattering ward windows and picking up a jagged glass shard as a weapon, screaming that he was going to kill the doctors.
This is the reward for two months of care. This is the "thanks" for the doctor who stayed back on his off-day to help. We demand justice. This must not be swept under the carpet.
The Delta State Police must charge the assailant under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP). No "begging," no out-of-court settlement. Any assault on a healthcare worker must lead to an automatic jail term.
