@HaleyConningto1 I think what makes these groups so successful is a form of brainwashing that makes the religious group seem flawless which created the sense that people have been “saved” #REL2121S18
Another thing that intrigued me was the cult wars that hit America. I never knew that this was such an extensive problem and took a lot of work to get rid of. #REL2121S18
@Dillonrel2121@Tom_Kelly2121 I agree. Most followers only focus on the positives of their religion, not on anything suspicious. Being scammed is the last thing on people’s mind when it comes to their religion. #REL2121S18
@lhpo16 @BloomRyan7498 I think the movement was so successful because there are still a large number of individuals in America who are traditional and share the same views. #REL2121S18
@Dillonrel2121@garrett_REL2121 Trump is very manipulative in his nature. The words that come out of his mouth are said because of money coming his way, or in the case of his campaign, attracting voters #REL2121S18
@lhpo16 @lds13f I think traditions and ceremonies are vital in religions. Without them people may forget the origins on a certain religion, and even why they are gathered in the first place #REL2121S18
@SamanthaStofsky I don’t think evangelicals particularly liked trump, but they chose him as the better candidate because of his traditional policies that he would place if he had gotten elected #REL2121S18
Another thing I loved about the class was the reading. It was interesting to find out that the FBI persecuted and harassed so many groups of people to such a significant extent. #REL2121S18
One big thing that I took from this class is that religions aren’t only followers dedicated to a specific god, followers can also dedicate their time to an ideology or even a person. #REL2121S18
@Bcb16b As we know, no religion is perfect. They may have been accepting half members to grow their community in an attempt to spread the popularity of the religion. #REL2121S18
@tommytokesalot I believe that this was more successful, because once you combine the ability to independently choose how you practice your faith with more expressive ways of preaching it will attract the majority of populations. #REL2121S18
@haleymott5 Colonists looked at the native’s bizarre customs and scrutinized them because their way of life was completely different than the way the Christian scripture described life. #REL2121S18
@brooke_behler I think preaching was so effective because it appeals to a general audience, rather then individual efforts that people had to make to discover religion. Inspiring talks always appeal to 99% of people. #REL2121S18
