@ronaldnzimora@IgboPerspective In the days that ITA Ibadan was very active my mum use to bring new species of crop every farming season. If they are as effective as they use to be in the South East they would have either improved ede or given us a better alternative eg potato like someone suggested
@ronaldnzimora@IgboPerspective Point una never bring just dismissals. It's possible I am older than all of you and have a longer history with ede. I cultivated Ede , I prepared ede , I made achicha ede (alibo) , I battled itchy bum bum . I have seen it wane in demand. You guys are emotional about it .
@ChiKachik818@ronaldnzimora Now you are talking. We can try Potato.
Meanwhile I said Yam and Cassava . Yan can do everything and Cassava is cheap like Cocoyam . Both of them are highly acceptable.
Yam and Cassava. Have you ever taken Cocoyam In a restaurant. Have you ever been offered Cocoyam as a guest. It's cheap because demand is low. Cassava have similar bumper harvest and require less intervention yet it's more expensive because of demand.
Like I said retire and replace
Yam is the only stable tuber that is indeginous to west Africa. Cassava was introduced by Portuguese explorers and Cocoyam was introduced from South America during slave trade. There are so many other similar crops we can try. Don't get too emotionally attached to it. Obiara abia
@ronaldnzimora No one here is making a case for why Cocoyam should continue to exist . Yet can’t go a restaurant and order it , most families don’t have it on their menu except as Uri . It doesn’t have no nutritious application like cassava. Why do you want people to continue farming it.
