I heard someone say, satan got adam and eve to fix their eyes on one tree when god had already given them an entire garden, think about that. The enemy didn't have to convince them that they had nothing. He just had to make them forget everything that they already had. And he still, till this day, uses the same strategy. He gets us to focus on relationships we don't have, the job that we don't have, the opportunity we don't have, the healing we haven't seen yet. IJAW: THE PEOPLE WHO TURNED THEIR NEIGHBOURS INTO ENEMIES AND THEMSELVES INTO SCAPEGOATS

In all of Nigerian history, no book records an Igbo–Ijaw civil war. No Ijaw invasion of Igboland. No Igbo invasion of Ijaw land. These two peoples lived like a commonwealth: free movement, free trade, open sea routes, no one blocking the ocean. They intermarried most—Ijaw men married Igbo women, Igbo men married Ijaw women. Good, peace-loving neighbours.

Then Nigeria arrived. Propaganda started flying. The same people who ran their economy like the UK—open borders, shared trade—were suddenly enemies. Suddenly Igbos were “grabbing” Ijaw land and Ijaws were “grabbing” Igbo land. After oil was found, Igbos became the enemy, the land-grabbers, the “landlocked” people. Nobody called anybody landlocked before. Economies were flourishing. Now there are killings, new boundaries, “from here is Igbo, from here is Ijaw.” Problems everywhere.

Ijaw, have sense! You have always been small. History shows a population crisis always existed in your land. You were not highly productive in numbers, so you absorbed slaves and immigrants and even had Igbo kings to swell your ranks. Population is your weakest point. You need numbers to defend your resources and to negotiate politically. God has not given you that population for a reason. The smart move was diplomacy with neighbours who have it—the Igbos and Ibibios. Instead you made them enemies. You thought you could go it alone. That is your downfall and your curse.

To be blunt: if you stay at loggerheads with the Igbos, you will achieve nothing in Nigeria. Nothing! You will remain the scapegoats of this project. Since you made Igbos the enemy, what have you won? You think you are hurting them. You are hurting yourself.

Look at Igboland: five homogeneous states plus two major heterogeneous States where they're majority and 6 other ones where they're minority—seven well-performing capital cities. You, Ijaw? Zero cities. Port Harcourt, the prize you thought you won, went back to the Igbos. Yenagoa, the town you parade as yours, is not even built on Ijaw soil. You have no city. What did stubbornness and “claim this, claim that” buy you?

Swallow your pride. Return to how you used to live. You are not the only people with oil. Akwa Ibom has more crude oil than you. The Igbos hold the largest natural-gas reserves in West Africa; Imo alone has more gas than many countries. So what is the noise about?

You abandoned historical partners and allied with people who want to swallow you.

Are you cursed?
Can’t you think?

Stop the shenanigans. Go back to the drawing board. Make peace with your neighbours and see if this country starts to favour you.

Since you decided to negotiate alone, what have you gained? Polluted waters. Air you cannot breathe. Eyes red and itchy from poisonous gas. Do Igbos suffer that? No. They have voice and people in power. Who speaks for you? No one. You cut yourself off from the people who would have amplified your voice. That is why you cannot farm, why oil spills everywhere, why fish die, why people drink poisoned water and die. That is the curse of isolation.

Think! You are human beings, not animals. Use your head. Stop being a curse to yourselves. This “we no go gree” attitude is becoming disgusting.
