Apparently, I'm e/acc (+ bio/acc)
Welcome to my open-source journal. All half-baked ideas are final sale.
Would love to hear from @bchesky on this.
A nuanced issue around the reality that, how we say words matters, and historically "tech" (software tech aka information technology aka IT people ;) has been great at shooting itself in the foot with comms. Making it easy for NYT wordcels to exploit antagonsitically, and ultimately making it easy for the general public (whom I genuinely believe a lot of tech people want to create value for) to disfavor technological progress; to (maybe unknowingly) be against / not support the very technological advancement which itself could truly bring about the very (very literal, very possible) "Abundance" that no human on earth would deny to their children (if the option was easily at hand).
Ironically (given the original post), I'm almost certain that @pmarca and @a16z (and maybe even my friend @katiekirsch ?), with their recent manifesto on "New Media", would agree whole heartedly with this (now long rambling) take I've expressed.
@bchesky@pmarca I must admit, I resent the phrasing "people who actually have the power to build" as used here. For the common reader, it suggests that said people could actually build something if they tried. That, of course, would be a gross misstatement. Please see https://t.co/YLhwTcdOP3

@Beechwood_Ben@bchesky@pmarca You are correct, and I agree. See my quoted reply. I'm simply making a point that we shouldn't give those zoning "people in power" the honor of being called (or confused for) "people who actually literally *build*".
BREAKING: The first Federal National Mortgage Association-backed mortgage using Bitcoin in the US just closed using Coinbase 🇺🇸
The homebuyer said: “We closed on our home and my Bitcoin stayed intact. We didn’t have to liquidate, didn’t have to time the market” 🙌
JUST IN: Scientists say AI has decoded communication patterns in mice, dolphins, apes, birds, whales, & cuttlefish — could eventually lead to humans communicating directly with animals.
Lol we're getting a little crazy now going to series G+
Though if any problem were in fact to need / deserve this kind of capital, fusion energy is def ~top of my list
NEWS 🚨We’re excited to support @Helion_Energy's $465M Series G. Fusion is a necessary energy source for much of the tech we invest in.
Helion stands out as a company focused not only on the science behind fusion, but on the manufacturing, supply chain, and execution that will be required to scale fusion fast.
Kudos to @Dkirtley and the Helion team!
Checking in on this scenario proposed 2 months ago. At least @GavinSBaker agrees with me on the energy bit. In process, but the China talks and Iran seem to be going my way too. Russia-Ukraine up next?

It's rare that I disagree with @balajis , but I'm (broadly) with Joe on this one. We're in the fog of war and there's a lot of story yet to be written.
Also I have a max absurd optimistic scenario. US is already energy independent, and with Venezuela , now becomes (at least short term) the new default energy provider of the world. Our greatest geopolitical competitor China, was absolutely dependent on the lost oil and Trump is about to go have a sit down with Xi. Maybe , just maybe, we get a good deal and everyone plays nicely moving forward.
With that done , pack up boys , we don't need to be in Iran anymore. Let them scramble around, every single one of their neighbors is now unified against them anyway. And we even finally got Europe to wake tf up. ✅ ✅ ✅
Oh and is there still a war in Ukraine ? Putin, bro, the other half of the global oil market is yours, just stfu already and let's call it a day. We permanently remove sanctions, and the global energy "crisis" is resolved instantly.
Imagine if this actually played out , and before midterms lol. A schizo poast in the style of @TMTLongShort 🫡

It looked much more insane when I first tried to say it 2 months ago: "Also I have a max absurd optimistic scenario. Thanks for pointing this out @GavinSBaker :
"The Strait of Hormuz being closed, while it's terrible for everyone, it is relatively the best for America. Because we are self-sufficient in energy, we are self-sufficient in food, we have become a massive exporter of oil. We're now the world's largest, not only oil and gas producer, but oil and gas exporter."

For the uninitiated (of which there seem to be many), the joke here is that "Abundance" is a watered down, poor translation of what SV has been saying (and creating) for the last 20+ years (minimum). @pmarca wrote the essays years ago.
Ironically though, per @bchesky 's comment, it has served a valuable purpose as a "For Dummies" text for the NYT crowd. That same crowd also happens to comprise the large part of the government / political bureaucracy that DECIDES who is ALLOWED to build; picking winners from amongst the set of people who *actually* have the power (the ABILITY) to build.
