The institution failed. The system failed. Yet somehow, once again the burden falls on women. Every time women are failed, the answer seems to be another restriction on women instead of fixing the institution that failed them. Women don’t need fewer places to seek help. They need to know that when they walk into a police station, they will be protected, not endangered. Where else should they go? If this is the solution, we’ve learnt absolutely nothing. Gut wrenching.

Police have arrested a man identified as Manan over allegations of sexually assaulting and killing an 18-month-old girl in Karachi’s Qayyumabad. According to the victim’s family, the suspect is a relative who would often take the child out to buy her things. Family members apprehended the accused and handed him over to police at the Defence police station. Meanwhile, Chhipa sources said the child’s body was transported from the Chhipa morgue to her home in Qayyumabad D Area after funeral preparations. The investigation is underway.
