Newcastle United fans drove Sir Bobby Robson out of the club because 5th was perceived to be a failure after 3rd and 4th the previous two season and went into decline immediately.
Kevin Keegan quit, exhausted, saying he’d taken the club as far as he could.
Eddie Howe has achieved more than both of them. He’s hurting now. Booed off, having to take the blame for everything that’s happened over the last two years.
So, take a moment and ask, who could be better? If you can’t cut the most successful manager the club has had for 70 years some slack and give him some time to get things right… #nufc
There is not a more welcoming city to outsiders in my opinion anywhere in the world than Newcastle upon Tyne. However this weekend if you are coming here to protest in the way that you have seen elsewhere with rioting and looting and attacking people because of the colour of their skin then you are certainly not welcome here. This City is United and is proud of its diversity. Communities of all faiths and backgrounds get along here. We won't have it any other way. #NewcastleUponTyne

Happy birthday to NUFC, who changed their name from East End FC on this day.
Here’s some of the earliest surviving footage in play, featuring the rarely seen Victorian Barrack Road stand before it was reconstructed.
Streets of Sorrow / Birmingham Six was banned from being broadcast by the IBA in 1988 who claimed the lyrics could "incite terrorism".
In 1991, the Birmingham Six were released after their convictions were overturned by the Court of Appeal.

Our chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, turns out to be one of the richest Ministers of State, having sold his company in 2017. In 2018 he and his wife purchased 7 flats in Ocean Village in Southampton which they rent out. At a time when he was refusing to make inflationary increases to the wages of public service workers stating that we must keep inflation down, and that everyone had to share the pain of this, he increased the rents by over 8%. What a kick in the face for nurses, doctors, and civil servants.
When asked about it, he said that he gives the income from the flats which is over £150,000 to charity. He has been asked to provide the names of the charities and evidence of the gifts. He has refused to provide this information and this is clearly a lie [source: Antony Barnett - investigative journalist working for the Mirror and Led by Donkeys]
Jeremy Hunt is yet another pig in the trough of the Conservative Party. Another liar. Another one who does not care about any of us. He will give his budget this week for we mere mortals. If this is another budget for the rich, do not be surprised. He should be sacked tomorrow for his lies, but he won’t be of course.
Is there no one with integrity in the Conservative Party? We deserve better. Corruption and lies can be stopped if clear rules are devised and policed. None of them should be above the law. @VoteTrueAndFair@thatginamiller #JeremyHuntout #wedeservebetter #ToriesOutNow #GeneralElectionNow

Sir Bobby Charlton suffered a lingering PTSD after Munich. Imagine if all your best mates - like brothers because you lived and played with them every day- died in your presence . Not a day will have gone by. He was a walking talking memorial to them all and the heart break. Every time he spoke of Duncan Edwards he started to choke up. Now back with them all.
Spare a thought for poor ole Michael O’Leary, Chief Executive of Ryanair.
After arriving in a hotel in Manchester, he went to the bar and asked for a pint of Guinness.
The barman nodded and said, "That will be £1 please, Mr. O’Leary."
Somewhat taken aback, O'Leary replied, "That's very cheap," and handed over his money.
"Well, we do try to stay ahead of the competition", said the lbarman. "And we are serving free pints every Wednesday from 6 pm until 8 pm. We have the cheapest beer in England".
"That is remarkable value", Michael comments.
"I see you don't seem to have a glass, so you'll probably need one of ours. That will be £3 please."
O'Leary scowled, but paid up.
He took his drink and walked towards a seat. "Ah, you want to sit down?" said the barman. "That'll be an extra £2. You could have pre-booked the seat, and it would have only cost you £1."
"I think you may be too big for the seat sir, can I ask you to sit in this frame please".
Michael attempts to sit down but the frame is too small and when he can't squeeze in, he complains "Nobody would fit in that little frame".
"I'm afraid if you can't fit in the frame you'll have to pay an extra surcharge of £4 for your seat sir".
O'Leary swore to himself, but paid up. "I see that you have brought your laptop with you" added the barman. "And since that wasn't pre-booked either, that will be another £3."
O'Leary was so incensed that he walked back to the bar, slammed his drink on the counter, and yelled, "This is ridiculous, I want to speak to the manager".
"I see you want to use the counter," says the barman, "that will be £2 please."
O'Leary's face was red with rage. "Do you know who I am?"
"Of course I do Mr. O'Leary."
"I've had enough! What sort of a Hotel is this? I come in for a quiet drink and you treat me like this. I insist on speaking to a manager!"
"Here is his e-mail address, or if you wish, you can contact him between 9.00 am and 9.01am every morning, Monday to Tuesday at this free phone number. Calls are free, until they are answered, then there is a talking charge of only £1 per second, or part thereof".
"I will never use this bar again".
"OK sir, but do remember, we are the only hotel in England selling pints for £1."
