Every year, during the first full week of May, law enforcement organizations across the country celebrate National Correctional Officers and Employees week which began back in 1984 thanks to President Ronald Reagan.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department would like to formally recognize the dedication and service of our Correctional Officers and Employees as the week comes to an end. Correctional Officers, also known as Custody Assistants within LASD, play an integral role in maintaining safety, security, and order within our custody facilities, station jails, and detention areas. Their hard work and dedication, in what is often a demanding and high stress environment, often go unnoticed due to operating behind the scenes. Not only do correctional professionals ensure security, but they are also indispensable in supporting the rehabilitation, accountability, and well-being of those who are within their care.
Without their help, law enforcement operations around the nation would cease to function. This observance provides an opportunity to acknowledge the important contributions of all those who hold the title of Correctional Officers and Employees alike.
