New paper out! Free-ranging dog (FRD) populations are increasing and are becoming a huge problem for wildlife conservation and people in several regions of the world, especially the Global South. FRDs are killing people and wildlife. In this perspective.. https://t.co/8xM1E6FEza

Thanks so much for putting this out there. It is so important that we talk about good supervision, and what that looks like, as well as the bad, which often gets more press
I have really enjoyed working w many fantastic EU students over the past few years & am saddened that this is only open to UK nationals. I'm sorry that this is where we are. But options to come from the EU for an internship are very much open

Celebrating the @OfficialZSL Scientific Medal awarded to the brilliant @ELCShepard for leading edge research on the mechanisms underlying movements of flying animals, well done! @SwanseaUni@thembauk
IMPORTANT news: 14 guillemots and 4 razorbills from the current mortality have all come back negative for #HPAIV from @APHAgovuk
This supports the idea that this mortality is related to prey availability. Is this the extreme marine heatwave's effects?

I couldn't be happier to share I have won the π½πΏπΆππ² π³πΌπΏ ππ΅π² ππ²ππ π£π΅π ππ΅π²ππΆπ (2022) in the Faculty of Science and Engineering @SUSciEng at @SwanseaUni. I am forever grateful to @ELCShepard & @AndrewRossLeeds for their unprecedented support all these years
The Isle of May kittiwakes currently being hammered by Avian Influenza. Mortality was low until the last fortnight creating a thoroughly depressing situation. We aren't yet seeing mass mortality at the nests, as also noted in 2022. 1/2
Back from monitoring seabirds on Isle of Canna. Thankfully no sign of birds currently being affected by bird flu, but following last summer's outbreak razorbill down 32%, guillemot down 58% and fulmar down 68%. Shag, kittiwake and puffin OK.
First round of tagging complete β οΈ
Our red-billed chough chicks were fitted with their tags yesterday and are getting ready for release! Three types of tag are being used (thread) with each bird carrying one type.
