➡️In 1980s prostate MRI described by Steyn & Smith
➡️In 1990s mpMRI protocols were developed
➡️In 2000s a prebiopsy MRI was postulated by @LondonProstate1
➡️In 2010s mpMRI was proven to be highly accurate pre-biopsy
➡️In 2020s IP1-PROSTAGRAM evaluated fast MRI for screening

This is the correct decision and we should now double down on our resolve to do the science to find better screening tools and better treatments for men with prostate cancer.
👏Great news from DHSC supporting PCa research & better evidence for Black men
🔬 PCa screening policy must be built on robust evidence.
📈Expanding TRANSFORM will help generate evidence for earlier, fairer and safer screening

@zubirahmed@DavidLammy
Brilliant academic, hugely skilled HoLEP surgeon and one of the cleverest people I know. I’m genuinely sad to see him leave the NHS, but @GSK is lucky to have him. Looking forward to seeing what he does next for in prostate cancer research.
Last operating list with my ex-@IP_London colleague Mr Ed Bass before he joins GSK as a Medical Director
Ed has been a brilliant colleague & friend. He’ll be hugely missed, but I can’t think of anyone better suited to help shape GSKs next generation of prostate cancer treatments
#IBUS26 Excellent talk on current policy for prostate cancer in the UK. Fit for purpose? The always insightful @SimonBott6 with an audience assist from TRANSFORM’s @LondonProstate1

Focal prostate HIFU 🎯
What an honour, privilege & pleasure to now re-join the renowned Imperial Prostate team @IP_London team as Hons Consultant Urological Surgeon & deliver focal therapy!
Very grateful to have been welcomed back warmly, and to help give best possible outcomes for our patients
@ImperialSandC@ImperialNHS@FocalSociety@UkFocal@LondonProstate1@TaimurShah
@DrSpratticus I agree patient benefit comes first & cardiothoracics can be seen as a success story in less invasive Rx. My point was not ownership for its own sake, but that focal therapy needs careful selection, robust training & high-quality delivery, not casual adoption or blanket dismissal
🎯 Packed room at focal therapy course #eau26
‼️@LondonProstate1 draws a clear lesson from cardiothoracics … specialties that resist innovation can be left behind
👍BUT, effective FT needs proper training, thoughtful case selection & skilled delivery … led by urologists
Appreciative of Lord Brady sharing his experience of his prostate cancer diagnosis and subsequent focal HIFU therapy at Imperial Prostate.

Salvage focal therapy for radiorecurrent prostate cancer has comparable 10-year cancer-specific survival to radical prostatectomy, but fewer complications in matched analyses

📖 Nice new paper by @AJWLight & @TaimurShah
🎯Comparing salvage focal therapy vs prostatectomy for radiorecurrent localised PCa
🔹 Comparable 10yr survival rates
🔹 Markedly less morbidity with FT
👏Useful data supporting sFT as a lower-morbidity option in appropriate cases
In localized radiorecurrent #ProstateCancer, salvage focal therapy provided similar 10-year survival outcomes as radical prostatectomy but resulted in substantially fewer perioperative complications.

A clear summary of the prostate screening dilemma by @LondonProstate1
⚖️ Current PSA evidence ➡️ mortality benefit BUT big overdiagnosis+harms
🧬 MRI, genetics+focal therapy may cut harms
🧑🏼💻 Next steps: getting more data for the NSC on better pathways

Today marks an important move on prostate cancer screening
📜The NSC has made a careful, evidence-led decision.
🎯Targeted screening for men with BRCA1/2 mutations sensibly prioritises those where benefit clearly outweighs harm
📺@LondonProstate1 breaks it down on @BBCNews
After massive piling of pressure on national screening committee. The verdict is
✅ Biennial screening for BRCA1/2 carriers aged 45–61
❌ No routine PSA screening for most men
❌ No targeted programme for Black men
