Walt is 92 and served in Korea. Last winter, a few weeks after his own dog died, he started walking the mile from his senior apartment to the county shelter in Ottumwa, Iowa. He doesn't drive anymore.

Walt didn't want a puppy. He asked for the oldest dog in the building, and they brought out Duke, a big black Lab who'd been passed over for more than a year. Walt clipped on a leash and the two of them walked the shelter's fence line together, one slow lap, with a dog biscuit at the end. By the second week, Duke was waiting at the gate at nine.

One morning the manager asked Walt why he didn't take Duke home. He opened his wallet and showed her. There was a 10 and two ones in it, and he said that had to last him until the first of the month.

Somebody at the shelter posted a picture of Walt and Duke on that fence line. The commander of Walt's veterans' post saw it that night. At the next meeting a hat went around the room, and it came back with $2,300.

Walt still walks a mile every morning at nine. Duke walks it with him now.

This lad is seven years old and is very fat, his owner struggled with his general care.
He is a very sweet lad and behaved well at the vets for his vaccinations.
He is vaccinated and parasite treated.
He has dog tested well, I have a video for interested rescues.
Thai lad needs an understanding place as is is sensitive, although he has been well behaved since he has been in the system, there is some history, I can elaborate on with rescues.
Nice older boy in need of a chance. Have any of our rescues got a space?

This is precious , neutered , 10 month old Pauly. He will need a miracle to make it out of the shelter . He was adopted and returned after one day. His adopter said he bit them twice . Per the shelter volunteer, “These incidents may have been reactive behavior, playful mouthy behavior, or even hyperarousal, we'll never truly know what happened.”

In the shelter it is said that ,”Pauly was nothing but a sweet and loving boy with us.
He was handler focused and eager to please. All he needs is guidance and a confident leader to help guide him into becoming his best self. Pauly will do best in a home without kids or other dogs at this time. He does not have to be the only dog if foster/adopter is committed to crate rotation and very slow introductions.”

Just look at the Edinburgh Garden of Remembrance. Completely wrecked.

Our poppies and our remembrance are being sneered at more and more.

When people keep talking down the poppy and treating patriotism like something to be ashamed of, it sends a message. In my view, that's giving the vandals a green light.

War memorials defaced. Poppies ripped down. Tributes to our heroes disrespected.

The men and women who died for this country deserve better. Lest we forget means NEVER forget.

Odin is a beautiful 3 year old male Border Collie. He is available and looking for a new home. 
Sadly due to the owners health , Odin needs someone who can provide him the stimulation and attention he needs. He is very much loved but would be best in a home with someone who can give him lots of walks and attention. 
He is chipped and neutered and healthy with no concerns. 
Odin can be wary of strangers to begin with and would need a little time to get use to anyone new. 
He is okay with some pets and can be wary of others - due to this, he’d be best in a home with no other pets to save him any unsettlement. 
Odin eats dry and wet food and is also crate trained. 
He loves toys and can be strong on the lead. 
Odin has had the same owner since being a pup. 
He isn’t a fan of the hoover but does love to play with a ball. 
He is more of a fan of women than men, so may be best with a lone female looking for company, although we will consider male households too. 
Odin is very loving and affectionate. No cats.
