In his first major foreign policy move as Prime Minister, @andyburnham – along with his hapless sidekick, Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband – has managed to trigger a major international incident that threatens to leave Britain poorer, less secure and weaker overseas.
Yesterday, Miliband got to his feet in Parliament to announce swingeing sanctions against Israeli settlements, measures that many fear will effectively become a full boycott of Israel.
At a stroke, he managed to cast into doubt our bilateral relationship with the region’s only democracy – which brings thousands of jobs and billions of pounds into our economy, not to mention collaborations on security, military hardware and tech – and infuriate the White House, which is preparing to retaliate, probably with a trade war.
Yesterday, Israel’s immediate response was to close our consulate in Jerusalem and exclude Britain from the group of countries trying to rebuild Gaza. We may also see growing support for Argentina’s erroneous claim on the Falkland Islands from erstwhile allies, provoked by our needless act of hostility.
We will end up poorer, not only because of losing Israeli business but also wealth from America. Thirty-eight US states have adopted laws or policies that penalise anyone boycotting Israel; that’s before we even consider the spectre of Donald Trump’s famous tariffs.
For what? Jewish residents of the West Bank number about 530,000, of whom a few hundred are extremists; of these, under 100 are thought to be hardcore violent thugs. They are, of course, reprehensible. But on the whole, Israel is by far the freest society in the region, for Muslims as well as Jews and Christians.
Where else would you find Pride month being celebrated in the Middle East? Or Muslim women participating freely in society? Or Christians living their lives in safety and happiness? Answer: Nowhere.
By comparison, that fragile democracy is surrounded by authoritarian, corrupt and failing states as far as the eye can see. Many of them harbour tens of thousands of jihadists, whose bloodlust for infidels draws little distinction between an Israeli or a Briton.
Israel may indeed have made mistakes in fighting this defensive war that was thrust upon it on October 7, 2023. Many civilians have died as the Israel Defence Forces have desperately tried to destroy Hamas terrorists hiding behind the population.
And the government in Jerusalem certainly contains several far-Right ideologues, the sorry result of Israel’s proportional representation system.
But these are the struggles of a friend and ally, not the hallmarks of an enemy. Hamas and Islamic Jihad, on the other hand, or the rabble-rousing administration in Ramallah – which still pays incentives to convicted terrorists – or the despotic regimes elsewhere in the region hardly have our best interests at heart.
When did Palestinian intelligence services last save British lives? When did Palestinian trade boost our economy, or Palestinian tech strengthen our Armed Forces or NHS?...

Dear people still talking about a 'Gaza genocide'. Can you point to a single other "genocide" in all of recorded history where:

a) The targeted population grew larger every year with thousands of births monthly,

b) The targeted population refused at any time to surrender,

c) The genocidal party provided mass humanitarian aid,

d) The genocidal party warned the target population to move to safety,

e) The targeted population of the genocide held victory parades,

f) The genocidal party had the ability to wipe out the entire targeted party from the air without a single military casualty but intentionally chose not to do so,

g) The genocide abruptly stopped with a ceasefire agreement,

h) The target population produced hundreds of medical students who completed their university studies and graduated during the genocide.

Any one example will do. Don't even need specifics.

There seems to be a whole lot of confusion on this word “genocide”, and people using it in such a way that suggests maybe they don’t understand what it means.

Genocide is not defined based on number of deaths, or comparing one action against another. The fact that more people have died in Gaza since Oct 7 than died in Israel on Oct 7, does not make Israel’s actions a genocide.

The fact that non-militants have died in Gaza, does not make this war a genocide.

Let’s first discuss the elephant in the room – this concept of non-militant (aka “civilian”) vs. militant (aka “Hamas”). This difference of opinions between those who support Israel and those who do not, will likely never be agreed upon. During conflict, Hamas does not wear uniforms, in order to blend in. There are UNRWA employees, and people with PRESS vests who are members of Hamas, and people who participated in Oct 7 who may not be members of Hamas, but are still combatants. Some will say these are non-militants, so let’s just acknowledge that we’re not going to agree on this.

That makes determining the combatant to civilian casualty ratio extremely challenging.

But that’s not important either. We don’t know the actual number of deaths and we don’t know the actual number of civilians vs combatants and we don’t know the ratio or how it compares to other urban wars.

But even if that ratio is worse – that doesn’t define a genocide either.

The most important element – and most difficult to prove – when determining if something is a genocide, is the intent. To constitute genocide (and again, I quote the UN), “…there must be a proven intent on the part of perpetrators to physically destroy a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Cultural destruction does not suffice, not does an intention to simply disperse a group”.

As people are screaming genocide, I ask you – where is the intent?

Does a country that wants to wipe out a group of people, drop leaflets to warn them before strikes?

Does a country that wants to wipe out a group of people, stop a war in order to ensure polio vaccines can be safely and properly administered to the children of their enemy?

Does a country that wants to wipe out a group of people, send in aid to ensure they have what they need?

Does a country that wants to wipe out a group of people, say over and over again that the war will stop, as soon as the hostages that were taken from them are released, and the terrorist government surrenders?

The death of every innocent person is tragic, but that also does not make it a genocide.

There’s only one thing that makes what Israel is doing a genocide, and that’s the propaganda machine. On Oct 7, after they attacked Israel, people were out on the streets, both celebrating the Hamas massacre on Israel, and condemning Israel for – wait for it – “genocide”. There were signs accusing Israel of genocide before Israel even started a response to the attack from Gaza. Hamas and the Islamist propaganda machine, decided they were going to call Israel’s response a genocide before they even attacked Israel in the first place.

The only genocide that’s occurring right now, is the one Hamas begun on Oct 7, 2023, and the one that the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic Regime, and the woke left are all perpetuating – and that’s the genocide of Israel and the Jewish people.

Every single call of “Free Palestine” and “From the River to the Sea” and “Globalize the Intifada” is a call to wipe out Israel, and to commit genocide against Jews.

Wake up world – as you cry out against Israel and Zionists and Jews for a genocide that isn’t happening, you’re supporting and enabling an actual genocide that the Islamic Regime is hellbent on carrying out.

It’s time for the world to open their eyes, and see what’s actually happening.

Gazans are calling for mass protests on June 26 against Hamas and its entrenched authoritarian, fascistic rule. The campaign, “The Voice of the Oppressed,” seeks to amplify the silenced majority in Gaza – voices crushed not only by Hamas, but also by its enablers in the West Bank, across the Arab and Muslim worlds, and within Western “pro‑Palestine” activist circles.

Gazans are exhausted by endless wars with Israel, perpetual Islamist repression, the collapse of their national hopes, and life as hostages to the suicidal nihilism of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Stand with the people of Gaza and elevate their voices; never speak over those who have lived under a terror regime that destroyed the Strip in the name of “resistance.”

So let me get this straight.

77% of the territory pledged as the Jewish national home was carved off in 1921 to create an Arab emirate. Fine. That's history, and Israel has long since accepted the Jordan River as a border.

But here's the real question:

Why is it still illegal for a Jew to live there?

Jordan's nationality law is explicit. Law No. 6 of 1954, still in force, grants citizenship to "any person who, not being Jewish, possessed Palestinian nationality before 15 May 1948." Read that again. The religious exclusion is written into the text. It is one of the few nationality statutes on earth with a clause aimed at a single religious group.

Land sale to Jews? Under a 1973 Jordanian law, the "Law for Preventing the Sale of Immovable Property to the Enemy," selling land to the "enemy" carries the death penalty and forfeiture of all property. The statute defines "enemy" as Israelis, but in practice it has been applied specifically to sales to Jews, not to Israeli Arabs. The Palestinian Authority inherited this law and enforces it to this day, sentencing land dealers to hard labor for life, with capital punishment still on the books.

So ask the people who chant about apartheid and ethnic cleansing:

Why is a state whose nationality law explicitly excludes Jews, and where selling land to Jews can cost you your life, considered the legitimate, "moderate Hashemite kingdom"?

Why is the one country in the region where Arabs, Muslims, Christians, Druze, and Bedouin all vote and sit in parliament the "apartheid state"?

Notice the pattern. When 77% of the land was made judenrein by British fiat and Hashemite decree, the world called it statesmanship. When Jews ask to live on the remaining 23%, the world calls it occupation.

A territory was emptied of Jews and kept empty of Jews for a century, and somehow the Jews are the ethnostate.

The map didn't just shrink the Jewish home by three-quarters. It established a principle:

Arab land can be Jew-free as a matter of law, and that this is normal.

Unremarkable.

Not worth a single UN resolution.

Ask why.

“Free Palestine.”

I grew up on those words.

In Lebanon, most people around me wanted a free Palestine for a very practical reason — to send the Palestinian refugees back. The civil war that tore my country apart was ignited in no small part by the Palestinian armed factions who turned Lebanon into their launching pad. “Free Palestine” meant: free us from them.

In Damascus, where my father’s family lived, the sentiment was different but equally self-serving. Palestine must be returned to the Arabs, its righteous owners. No one asked follow-up questions. No one was expected to.

Palestine was central to Islam, most Arabs are Muslim, therefore supporting the Palestinian cause was reflexive. A non-brainer in the most literal sense — no brain engaged at all.

Nobody stopped to point out that Palestine is not an Arabic word. Nobody found it strange that Jerusalem, the supposedly third holiest city in Islam, is not mentioned once in the Quran. Not once. Nor is Palestine. The entire theological and political architecture of this cause rests on a foundation that their own scripture doesn’t bother to acknowledge.

What was actually happening was indoctrination. A systematic, generational rejection of Jewish sovereignty — and frankly, of any minority sovereignty. Jews, Christians, Druze, Kurds, Assyrians, Yazidis — the Arab world has been remarkably consistent in how it treats people who are different. We just don’t talk about that.

Instead, in the West, we talk about Palestine.

In the West, a civilization that has elevated human rights to its highest moral currency, the Palestinian cause has become the one exception to every rule. In the queue of human suffering, Palestinians cut the line every time. Homosexuals executed in Gaza and hanged from cranes in Iran? Palestine first. Women imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for campaigning for the right to drive — a right they were denied until 2018 — girls sold into marriage in Afghanistan, women erased from public life entirely under the Taliban? After Palestine. Political dissidents ground into dust in Syrian and Egyptian prisons, journalists disappeared in Libya, children starving in Yemen while their rulers wage proxy wars, entire populations hollowed out by hunger in Sudan? All of it waits. Christians ethnically cleansed from Iraq and Syria, the Arab world methodically emptied of every Jewish community it once held — a demographic erasure carried out across a century with surgical patience and near-total Western silence?

Palestine is still first.

So let’s end where we started. Free Palestine. Which Palestine, exactly? The Roman invention? The British administrative line? The British Mandate covered the entire territory of what is today Israel, the West Bank, Gaza and Jordan. In 1921, 78% of that mandate was handed to the Hashemite family — a dynasty imported from Hijaz in present-day Saudi Arabia — and became the Kingdom of Jordan, which it remains to this day. A foreign royal family, on the majority of historic Palestine, ruling it as a monarchy. Nobody protests that. No flags, no chants, no encampments. The remaining 22% was designated for the Jews, became Israel, and is the only part that any pro-Palestinian activist has ever had a problem with.

So when you say Free Palestine, you mean that 22%. You mean the Jews.

And free it from whom? From a people with a three-thousand-year-old documented presence in that land, to restore the glory of a name coined by Roman colonizers, a name lifted from the Torah, a name that has no roots in Arabic, no mention in the Quran, and no history as a sovereign state?

You are not chanting for liberation. You are chanting for colonialism — the Roman kind, repackaged for social media.

Free Palestine is not a cause. It is a colonial term, coined by invaders, recycled by the indoctrinated. The least you can do is have the intelligence to understand it and the decency to reflect on your position.
