Bought a ₹6.60 lakh Tiago, only to realise there’s a ₹1.95 lakh "government partner" in the car too.
My cousin decided to buy a 1.2L Tata Tiago for his family’s safety.
Down payment ? His.
5 year EMI ? His.
Insurance ? His.
Fuel expenses ? His.
But apparently, the government’s share in the purchase was not small either.
According to the breakdown
Ex factory plus automaker margin
₹4.65 lakh
Final On road Price
₹6.60 lakh
Government taxes or levies
₹1.95 lakh
That means roughly ₹1.95 lakh went towards taxes and government charges.
And the story does not end there.
First, pay income tax on your salary,
Then use that taxed income to buy the car,
Then pay GST or cess on the car,
Road tax on top
And even 18% GST on insurance.
At some point, you have to wonder
How many layers of taxation does a salaried taxpayer go through just to buy a family car ?
Put sarcastically
"I bought the Tiago,
but the government clearly put in a lot of effort too."
The perfect description might be
Car Mine.
EMI Mine.
Petrol Mine.
Insurance Mine.
But the tax collection ?
Government’s guaranteed partnership.
A joint venture between an exhausted salaried taxpayer and the Department of Revenue,
where one side puts in the money,
and the other side has a guaranteed revenue stream.
One of your executives just took a photo of my Aadhaar, saying it was required as proof to show his manager that delivery was made to the correct person. Is this practice permitted?
