I’ve just spoken with the Estonian PM @KristenMichalPM about the Russian air space violation today. NATO’s response under Eastern Sentry was quick and decisive.
Deeply honoured to succeed @jensstoltenberg as Secretary General of #NATO – the most successful political-military Alliance in history.
I thank the 32 Allies for their confidence and I am excited to get started.
After 10 momentous years @NATO, I have just one thing left to say to my dear colleagues and friends: thank you.
Best of luck to Mark Rutte – I know that with you at the helm, our transatlantic Alliance will stay safe and secure.
Serving as #NATO Deputy Secretary General has truly been an honour & a privilege, especially at such a turbulent moment in our history. I thank SG @jensstoltenberg for his trust & friendship, and our outstanding team for their dedication & professionalism

Gathering at the Mellon Auditorium, where the North Atlantic Treaty was signed in 1949, NATO Leaders commemorated 75 years of unity, strength, solidarity and resolve.
One for all, and all for one 🛡️

Dear Jens, you are a true leader&servant of the Alliance.
You show restraint, when you know it will lead to a better outcome for all.
Inspire confidence, when it’s most needed.
And you have an unparalleled ability to bring nations together to become bigger than themselves.
NATO Headquarters. I held a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The key focus was on preparations for the NATO Washington Summit. We expect decisions to enhance the Alliance's role in coordinating security assistance and training for Ukrainian troops, as well as long-term financial commitments to ensure stable support for Ukraine.
I thank @jensstoltenberg for his efforts to consolidate Allied support for Ukraine, particularly in bolstering Ukraine's air defenses.
I welcomed President @ZelenskyyUa to #NATO to discuss our preparations for the Washington Summit, now just two weeks away. More support to #Ukraine will be on top of our agenda, and we are on track for a successful summit.
I warmly welcome #NATO Allies' choice of @MinPres Mark Rutte as my successor. Mark is a true transatlanticist, a strong leader and a consensus-builder. I wish him every success as we continue to strengthen NATO.
I know I am leaving NATO in good hands.

Today, I addressed the Ukraine-NATO Council, stressing that human life must be equally valued and protected against terror in the Middle East, in Europe, and elsewhere.
Allies have the necessary tools. Unfounded fears must be abandoned and action needs to be taken.
A thread🧵
Sweden is now a NATO member. Thank you all Allies for welcoming us as the 32nd member. We will strive for unity, solidarity and burden-sharing, and will fully adhere to the Washington Treaty values: freedom, democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law. Stronger together.
It’s official – #Sweden is now the 32nd member of #NATO, taking its rightful place at our table. Sweden’s accession makes NATO stronger, Sweden safer, and the whole Alliance more secure. I look forward to raising their flag at NATO HQ on Monday.
