@afhill @supergovernance Oh yes! That's what keeps me awake at night 😆 The translation is not necessarily a bad starting point, but it should be more often considered as such: a starting point. I know @clearerworld has similar thoughts on this!

@clearerworld @quidampepin @tomomiq Un peu en lien avec l'insécurité linguistique; je me demande si demander "do you understand French" au lieu de "do you speak French" serait à explorer pour favoriser les conversations bilingues (anglo parle anglais, franco parle français). Yes! So glad that @joepairman shows how a passive-voice verb can help a paragraph flow, thanks to the ‘given-new’ principle.

Passive voice isn’t always bad. Let’s learn more about how it works, instead of just banishing it.
