This wonderfully crafted OC animation by Mezzier31 is mesmerizing to watch-- such movement, such polish!
What struck me in this photo is that there’s a street named after Count Bernadotte: he was a Swedish diplomat who saved 31,000 from Nazi concentration camps, became the UN’s first mediator in Palestine, backed the Palestinian right of return and then in 1948 was assassinated in Jerusalem by the Zionist Stern Gang.
Well, firstly, obligatory disclaimer that Mesoamerica (with the Aztec, Maya etc) is either in North or Central America, but definitely not South America like Andean civilizations (the Inca, Nazca etc)
Anyways, for Youtube, I suggest some channels and videos at the bottom of this post here: https://t.co/eEtsY2OGrn in the "YOUTUBE AND ONLINE VIDEO" section (see also the follow up replies where I list additional ones like the ArtsQ channel) but there's not a lot doing well researched content: Even history channels which seem to be mostly reliable on other topics tends to still make notable oversights when it comes to the Precolumbian Americas
Still, I suggest a few channels which do consistently good videos on the topic, and like a dozenish other individual videos from other channels there: Ancient Americas, AztlanHistorian, and ArtsQ are def the main 3 I would point too, but check out the full list there.
Keep in mind I am mostly suggesting channels run by "Youtubers" here, not videos or channels run by academic researchers, museums, or archeological organizations, as I have not compiled a list of those yet. But the ones @precolombismos suggests are all good (tho I haven't looked at Somos Nomadas yet) there's TONS of other INAH, UNAM etc associated channels beyond those, too., I also second @Callaxes 's suggestion of the Arcaeoed channel. Two other more academic minded one that comes to mind is the Boundary End Archaeology Research Center and the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center (more Oasisamerican cultures in the Southwest US, but sometimes delves into Mesoamerica), and I know there's like 10-20 more I just don't remember off the top of my head.
@alchemicalopu suggests the Fall of Civilizations videos/podcasts, and while I can't judge the Inca and Easter Island or Maya episodes, I have critiques with the Aztec one, namely that the footage used in the video version is of Danza Azteca preformers and their outfits don't resemble Prehispanic fashion at all, and more importantly that it frames Cortes getting allies against the Mexica of the Aztec capital as being due to resentment over the Mexica taking sacrifices, which is only really true of Tlaxcala's motives for allying with Cortes (and even then isn't entirely true for Tlaxcala), and overlooks the unique geopolitical dynamics and motives other states and kings had with the Mexica and why they turned on them, see https://t.co/wJvbeYGVtf
As far as other podcasts, again, I do not have a centralized list yet like I do for edutainment/infotainment Youtubers, but the reddit Askhistorians Podcast is good (/r/Askhistorians in general is an amazing resource, I can suggest some specific users, posts, etc if you want!) and while I never finished, the few episodes of "The Rest is History"' podcast's episodes on the fall of the Aztec were decent... not amazing, it had a fair bit of issues, but it was solid and at least kept up with the current literature. I haven't listened to it yet but @MexicaPodcast seems to know their stuff from my interactions with them.
Also, I refer you to my WIP bookchart and website directory here in the attached image, note that I will probably switch out "Broken Spears" for another book like Collision of Worlds
Lastly, I refer to @Duddly_two and @TonyTrupp on suggestions for Andean civilizations
This month, a team endorsed by Guillermo del Toro released Mexico's first stop-motion feature. It's 2 hours of pure imagination.
The film is called I Am Frankelda, and we've taken a deep look into how it came to be:
