@john_mcguirk After 66 years suddenly this needs attention. Despite nobody asking for it.
You’re familiar with incremental creep policy. The people give an inch and they take a mile, but they take that mile inch by inch so that you don’t notice.
What comes next and what comes after that?
@fiannafailparty You will ALL be remembered as the traitors who betrayed the heroes of 1916 who fought for Irish independence AND neutrality -if you read your history. Pearse, Connolly, Markievitcz, Dev, Collins, Lemass, Aiken -all cherished #IrishNeutrality
We will never forget these turncoats.
What’s actually going on in Ukraine is that there is a massive incentive difference between the elites and the people.
The former have grown very rich off the hundreds of billions flowing to Ukraine, while the latter’s children are conscripted to die in trenches.
🇷🇴 Romanians have shut down a main Bucharest street for Călin Georgescu, as judges decide if he can go home.
Georgescu, who won the first round of the annulled 2024 presidential election, has spent nearly a month in pre-trial detention in a fraud case.
A lower court ordered him moved to house arrest on October 13, but prosecutors appealed. The Court of Appeal is deciding his fate today.
And just DAYS before the hearing, 2 NEW criminal investigations surfaced.
In one, prosecutors accuse him of having his home scanned for their audio-video recording devices, devices that, by their own admission, they had installed as part of their surveillance of him.
The other accuses him of giving a fascist salute to supporters last year.
His wife, Cristela, says she no longer feels safe living in her own home.
If this happened in Moscow, Brussels would be calling him a political prisoner.

🚨 JUST IN: VP JD Vance MIC DROPS European bureaucrats and fake news attacking Elon Musk, then BEGGING for him to unleash Starlink for Ukraine
"I do find it a little IRONIC that the European countries who have NOTHING like the technology that Elon has developed in Starlink...these countries have almost universally decided to wage regulatory and licensing WAR against SpaceX. And now they're all running to SpaceX saying, 'please do what we need you to do?!'"
🔥🔥🔥
"European countries depend on American technology, American businesses, and the American military, while at the same time European political leaders love to bash the United States allies that they depend upon so much!"
"Elon Musk runs a private corporation. And I think it's completely understandable that he doesn't want to get in the middle of what is a war between two state actors without the United States government effectively directing him on what to do."
@ElonMusk is their favorite guy to bash...then they turn around and act entitled to his technology.
Same countries that want to fine and regulate him into oblivion!
This comes right after WSJ claimed that Musk ordered a Starlink slowdown that caught Ukraine off guard. Because of course they'd claim that!
The EU fined X under its Digital Services Act and has spent years going after Elon. Now Europe needs his satellites 🤡
They can't have it both ways. Vance nailed it.
We were promised the Triple Lock would stay when we voted on Nice and Lisbon. Micheál Martin called it the core of our neutrality. Nobody voted to scrap it.
Who changed his mind? Not Dublin, not Cork. Cui bono? Not the Irish people.
Put it to the people. #TripleLock#Neutrality
@naomirwolf wow, intrigued about this project (calendula is one of my childhood smell memories) PS: can relate to living like students too - if I can't change it, can at least tease my SO about it :).
Here’s a confession that will get me kicked out of the architecture astronaut club:
I once spent three weeks designing a microservices platform for an app that had zero users.
Event bus. Service mesh. A separate database per service. The whole buffet.
You know how many people used it the first month? Eleven. Four of them were my coworkers.
(I still have the diagram. It’s beautiful. It’s also useless.)
Here’s what nobody tells you early in your career: there is no “right architecture.” There’s only the right architecture for right now.
The prototype rewards speed of learning.
Production rewards reliability.
Scale rewards throughput and team autonomy.
Pick the scale architecture during the prototype phase and you trip over your own shoes. Keep the prototype architecture at scale and the pager eats your weekends.
So how do you decide what to lock in?
I stole the answer from Jeff Bezos. (Yes, the guy who sells us batteries at 2am.)
He splits decisions into two kinds of doors. Some swing both ways. Some lock behind you.
Here’s how I map it now:
1> Two-way doors: framework, caching, deployment setup, queues. I decide fast and change them later without crying about it.
2> One-way doors: data model, public API contracts, consistency guarantees. I slow way down here, because migrating a schema with ten million rows is not a weekend project.
3> I leave seams in the code so the next phase doesn’t need a rewrite.
4> I write down the triggers that move us forward before we hit them. “When p99 crosses X, we split the write path.” Boring. Effective.
The funny part? That microservices team did the exact opposite. We argued about frameworks for weeks and designed the schema in an afternoon.
Guess which one haunted us for two years.
Architecture isn’t a destination. It’s a sequence of good-enough answers.
So tell me: which one-way door did you walk through too fast?

@RoKhanna No, the young people rioting are telling the world:
'We are young.
We know nothing about our civilization.
We take all its benefits for granted.
We see only its flaws.
And we do not see them as things to fix.
We see them as reasons to burn the whole civilization down.'
📢 From Stockholm, Europe's leading farming organisations are sounding the alarm.
In a landmark declaration addressed to EU Heads of State and Government meeting in Brussels for the European Council meeting, the European farming community is sending a clear warning:
European agriculture is approaching breaking point, and the window to rebuild it on solid foundations is rapidly closing.
Agriculture has always been at the heart of the European project. Food security has never been merely an economic concern. It is a foundation of Europe's sovereignty, stability and peace.
At a time of mounting geopolitical uncertainty, farming must be recognised as a pillar of Europe's security and defence. This means maintaining a strong, common and properly funded Common Agricultural Policy.
🇪🇺 Europe cannot strengthen its security or aspire to be a global power while weakening its own agricultural foundations.
Defending the CAP is therefore not just about defending European agriculture. It is about defending Europe itself!
