Statement on the Costume Design and Artistic Elements in “Scarlet Heart Thailand”

@RafaTanapon If we didn't point out about that GMM probably won't give us any credit regarding costumes. They never announced that they're using outfits inspired by other culture before. That's the main problem here.
Why didn't you use this big opportunity to show off beautiful Thai tradition and costumes instead of making a fictional country and costume ?? I don't really understand their thought process. Their first historical series should be something that showcase their beautiful culture.

GMMTV is the root of these issues, yet people are even insulting Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand. If only Thai people can watch Thai series, international fans shouldn't bother supporting or trending them at all.

“Alawi is a fictional city inspired by a diverse range of cultures, including Thai, Lanna, Chinese, Burmese, and others.”
@GMMTV@ScarletHeartTH@Giggoo_
Saying that Alawi is “inspired by diverse cultures” does not address our concerns or excuse the lack of cultural accountability. The word “𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝” is 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝, 𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙤𝙧 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.
What you have presented is not merely a piece of clothing or a fashion design. It bears a striking resemblance to our tradational attire from Myanmar's Yadanabon Period, a significant part of our cultural and historical heritage. This is not something that should be casually dismissed as a generic design inspired by multiple cultures.
If GMMTV genuinely drew inspiration from Myanmar's cultural attire, then we deserve a clear explanation. What historical research was conducted? Which specific cultural and historical references informed the design? Was Myanmar's heritage properly acknowledged and represented? And why has there been no meaningful explanation addressing these concerns?
We are not asking you to simply label your fictional world as multicultural. We are asking you to 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
It is honestly frustrating to see cultural heritage treated as nothing more than an aesthetic choice while legitimate concerns about its representation remain unanswered. If you claim to be inspired by another culture, you should be prepared to explain that inspiration with transparency, respect, and historical context.
GMMTV & the production team, please stop staying silent and address these concerns directly. We deserve more than a vague statement about a fictional city. We deserve an explanation of the cultural and historical references behind the design, along with proper acknowledgment of the heritage it appears to draw from.

They mentioned the fantasy kingdom draws inspiration from Thai, Lanna, Chinese, & Myanmar cultures. If you borrow from other cultures, give proper credit. If not,it's just cultural appropriation.

Myanmar is not fictional. Our history, culture, and heritage are real. We demand respect, recognition, and proper credit for our cultural heritage. Respect is not optional. Give credit where credit is due
GMMTV, RESPECT MYANMAR CULTURE!

This also very disrespectful to their own culture too. Thailand has so many beautiful culture, costumes and GMMTV decided to creates costume mixed with other cultures for their FIRST historical drama. Very obvious that they didn’t do any research and only care about money making
yesterday, someone told me that we Burmese should just focus on our country’s situation instead of bickering over a fantasy drama. oh, so you want us to just stfu and let people erase or misrepresent our cultural identity just because we’re living under a military dictatorship? our country’s situation doesn’t mean we lose the right to speak up about our culture. we can care about what’s happening in our country AND defend our cultural identity at the same time. those two things aren’t mutually exclusive.

What the host said during the live was that @ScarletHeartTH is a work of fiction inspired by various sources, including Lanna, China, Laos and Myanmar.
I want to address the company and production team directly: Please do not shift the responsibility that belongs to you onto the host and the artists. This is not their responsibility .
Being inspired by different cultures means drawing upon elements that originated from others. These are not necessarily your own original creations and the cultures they originate from deserve to be acknowledged and respected.
What was said during the live has only made this situation worse. Not only Myanmar but the other cultures that inspired this production have also not been properly credited.
How can a company and production team lack such basic professional ethics ? I genuinely cannot understand it.
And please do not come up with the excuse that credits will be given when the series airs. Proper acknowledgment should have been provided from the trailer stage. Cultural references should be credited and respected from the very beginning, not only after the series has aired.
Adding a single credit line when the series finally airs, after ignoring all these requests and remaining silent throughout this controversy, would be even more disappointing and damaging to your reputation.
@GMMTV We are asking for acknowledgment, respect and accountability from the company and production team. Please take responsibility for your own decisions instead of leaving the host and artists to face the consequences.
