The use of DNA testing to mitigate illegal harvesting & trade of sharks & rays is currently underway.
This is being done by building a database of DNA of southern Africa’s shark species where species can be identified using DNA when species have no identifying characteristics.

Interceptor 006 has successfully prevented around 3,000,000 kg of trash (and counting) from reaching the Caribbean Sea in the last five months.
As the end of the flooding season in Guatemala approaches, we continue to capture and extract trash with every rainstorm.
The main contributor to the decline of sharks and rays worldwide, is overfishing.
More needs to be done to protect sharks and rays in our ocean.
