Update!

First of all, hats off to @MTNNG and @lakinbofa for the prompt response to my complaint.

Over the weekend Lakin took out time to trawl my data subscriptions and usage history; to try to find out who the culprit was.

Apparently our phones have apps that secretly drain your data without your knowledge. They collect tracking data, automatic updates, etc all without your knowledge or permission.

I subscribed to 8.47GB worth of data and their data usage tracker revealed that’s what my phone has actually consumed.

The other thing of course is that unlike my Glo SIM with epileptic coverage, MTN appears to be always on, so it makes sense that I’ll go through data faster on their network.

I’ve turned off auto-updates; turned on low-data mode; but what I’m most impressed with is how quickly MTN responded and how patient they were with me.

In some African countries, stated behaviours are not tolerated.Gambia, Sierra Leone etc. A Nigerian audit team once had to be recalled back home.
