NEWS: SpaceX puts payloads into orbit for about $1,000 per kilogram, roughly 20x cheaper than the industry, Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas says

The industry average runs close to $20,000 per kilogram.

Adam Jonas, Morgan Stanley's global embodied AI and robotics strategist, laid out the model on CNBC. He says SpaceX is simpler to model than people expect.

Three businesses stack on each other. Launch buys pole position, which Jonas calls real estate in low Earth orbit. That position made Starlink possible. Starlink runs near 50% margins and throws off the cash.

The third leg is AI, which barely existed a year ago. Jonas models it as revenue per watt.

Then comes the bill. He models close to $700 billion of outside funding, about $84 billion a year, with SpaceX not cash flow positive for roughly a decade.

Jonas did not soften the risks. He told viewers to expect an anomaly, an explosion and a very bad day for the stock. He named adversaries in orbit, space debris, AI competition and key man risk.

On whether the engineering is the hard part, Jonas said "I'm tempted to say it's not rocket science, but it actually is."

Fun fact. Jonas met Elon Musk in 2008, at SpaceX. He has said the meeting rewired him. He then spent 17 more years covering cars, built his name on Tesla and walked away from autos in 2025. 18 years after that first meeting, the company that rewired him is the one he now covers.

Now let's look at the numbers. In 1965 both places sat around $500 per capita. Today Singapore clears $84,000. Malaysia sits near $13,000. Same climate, same starting line, one sixth the result.

The Singapore dollar holds its value because the Monetary Authority of Singapore manages it against a currency basket and refuses to print its way out of trouble. The ringgit has lost roughly two thirds of its value against the Singapore dollar since 1981.

You cannot subsidize your way to wealth. You cannot redistribute what you never let people produce. Every ringgit funneled through a quota is a ringgit some bureaucrat spent on his own vision instead of a customer's.

Malaysia bet on planners deciding outcomes. Singapore bet on people deciding for themselves. The gap between $84,000 and $13,000 is your answer.
