@AbiyAhmedAli The Chameleon who Changes colors shifting positions & changes the lies to suit the his political agenda. But history has a long memory & actions speak louder than words. #Eritrea’s sovereignty is not negotiable. No political maneuver can change that. #Ethiopian
Books on Abyssinia before z 1930s is gold. After Haile Selassie took power in z 30s,z 3K-year Solomonic myth was manufactured for legitimacy. Z 1920 book ABYSSINIA is clear:sea access was neglected in treaties,& Abyssinia was never a geographical unit.👇👉

Mengistu believed his enormous Soviet-equipped army could preserve his rule. In 1991, that illusion collapsed.
Is Abiy Ahmed repeating the same fatal mistake?
Imported drones, tanks and foreign military support cannot substitute for political legitimacy or national unity.
History offers a warning. Will Abiy heed it?

#Ethiopia can't portray itself as an innocent victim while its leaders frame Red Sea access as a matter of national survival. Being landlocked doesn't grant Ethiopia a right to #Eritrea|n ports or territory. Article 2(4) of the UN Ch protects Eritrea’s.👇👉https://t.co/opVJtYinxb
We could say a lot about the 27-minute so-called interview that the great pretender, Abiy Ahmed, gave to his own megaphone television yesterday.
Study the camera shots carefully. This time, they spend very little time on his face and much more time on wide shots and the interviewer. Why? Because he is constantly reading from a screen, reciting words prepared for him by either Getachew or Tsadkan.
Yet, despite the producer’s and editor’s best efforts to conceal this, look what I found! You can actually see him reading from a screen strategically positioned behind the interviewer, creating the illusion that he is speaking freely to the interviewer or the camera.
But I froze the footage, zoomed in on his pupils, and guess what? Hehehehe! He is reading and repeating words from a big-screen like a parrot!
Abiy is as fake as they come: a pretender, a coward and a bigmouth. Behind the carefully staged performance and bluster, we all know he is terrified.

The Al Jazeera post is not an isolated threat. It is a direct response to a devastating internal war Ethiopia is currently losing. Abiy’s warning to Eritrea is born from desperation. His government is fighting a renewed, ferocious war against the TPLF in the north.
This threatens the stability of his entire government. Threatening Eritrea with "extremely severe" consequences is a move of weakness. A smarter option would have been de-escalation.
Ethiopia descending into utter chaos is a real possibility. If Abiy continues this trajectory, the country won't just face protests; it will face a "polycrisis" of interlocking ethnic conflicts, economic ruin, and political rebellion on a scale never seen before.
What we could witness won’t look like Paris. It will look like a failed state: 120M+ people fracturing along ethnic lines, millions displaced, and a wider regional war drawing in Eritrea, Sudan, and Egypt. It is an existential threat to the Ethiopian state—impossible to reverse once it spirals.

The level of virtue-signalling and gaslighting directed at the people of #Tigray and #Eritrea by Abiy in yesterdays so-called interview was off the charts.
The only question I keep asking myself after watching Abiy’s interview on his megaphone media outlets is: Who exactly is the target audience for this cheap, superficial and utterly fake display of concern for people he is either brutalising or threatening to invade?
By putting quotation marks around #Eritrean independence, Abiy essentially signalling that he does not recognise #Eritrea as an independent country. He then tried to convince #Eritreans that they were better off under the Dergue’s occupation than they are today. This begs the question: who is he trying to convince? He must have an extraordinarily low opinion of the Eritrean people to imagine they would buy such nonsense.
He also insulted and blamed the TPLF for everything that has happened in #Tigray, while, in the same breath, pleading with young Tigrayans to abandon the TPLF and join the PP, promising that he is ready to bake one of his famous specialty of corridor project on the streets of #Mekele. He even accused the TPLF of claiming to fill the shoes of Emperor Yohans IV, but are currently working with Egypt who killed the emperor and he also accused them for dividing Tigray along sub-regional lines, essentially favouring people from Adwa and alienating others. The contempt he has on the people of Tigray is unbelievable.
Here, it is worth recalling the statement made by the Oromo intellectuals a few days ago: “The PP regime has repeatedly converted legitimate political grievances into horizontal conflicts between communities, deepening mistrust and social tensions into enduring ethnic antagonisms. The strategy shifted attention away from the central crisis of governance and made collective political solutions more difficult to achieve.”
Reading from a teleprompter on Ethiopia's TV yesterday, the Potemkin Party's Prime Minister disparages Eritrea's economic development, and particularly its manufacturing sector, as "stagnant and in decline" since its independence in 1991.
The speech/interview was also laced with his three-year old threats of war of aggression and invasion unless Eritrea succumbs to his delusional projects of "sovereign access to the sea" and "Ethiopian naval presence" in Eritrea's coastal territory; packaged this time round in different pretexts, language, and format.
To revert to his disparaging discourse on Eritrea's economic performance and potential:
1. In the past 35 years, Ethiopia was the beneficiary of a whopping 80-90 billion US dollars of international multilateral and bilateral assistance;
2. Ethiopia went through two rounds of WB sponsored debt-cancellation rounds, as well as repetitive financial bailouts from the IMF and other donors. For almost ten years in -between, Ethiopia's dire humanitarian conditions were alleviated by the international community under a customized "social safety net" and other similar "intensive care" financial antidotes.
3. The current regime itself has received over 30 billion US dollars in international assistance in the last 8 years alone. In addition, its tattering economy is being resuscitated by another IMF bailout programme to the tune of 3.1 billion US dollars.
4. And yet, as the figures below illustrate, more than 68% Ethiopians are living under extreme poverty while close to 30 million people require urgent humanitarian relief assistance at this point in time.
5. In as far as the 300 manufacturing plants that the PP leader alludes to, these were old factories built during Italy's colonization of Eritrea from 1889 until 1941. The British Military Administration dismantled many of those factories - including the dock in Massawa - as "war booty" and sold them to other foreign countries. The occupationist Haile Selassie regime, in its turn, dismantled many of the remaining factories and transferred them to Ethiopia especially during the imposed "Federation" period.
6. After its hard-won independence in 1991, Eritrea registered rapid economic growth in the first seven years (WB reports). Imposed wars and unwarranted sanctions thereafter naturally affected the pace and magnitude of its economic trajectory.
7. These externalities have nothing to do with Eritrea's open investment and economic policies and visions.
8. And in any case, Eritrea has the abundant economic endowments (blue economy, extractive industry, educated and industrious human capital, and a civilized culture that celebrates religious and ethnic diversity within robust national unity) to excel and achieve its aspirations of rapid and sustainable growth in a conducive and enduring regional climate of peace and stability.
9. Finally, Ethiopia itself could do much better, extricate itself from debilitating dependency, and use its abundant resources for real development if its leaders abandon sectarian policies of division and polarization that incubate perennial cycles of internal turmoil as well as intertwined acts of regional destabilization in pursuit of delusional and expansionist projects.
This is what international media coverage keeps missing. Access to Eritrea's ports is an option, not an obligation. The answer may be yes, maybe, or no, and #Ethiopia must accept that it may be NO, PERMANENTLY. Abiy’s government which has been declaring "sovereign access to the sea, through negotiations if possible & by force if necessary," and vows to "march into Assab and install our flag on the Red Sea," cannot reasonably expect "let's talk" in reply. #EthiopianAgressionIntheHorn #EthiopiaNotAboveTheLaw
#Ethiopia’s main news agencies such as @fanatelevision and @ebczena are being used day in and day out to intoxicate the population with jingoistic, inflammatory messages about the Red Sea, a glorious and prosperous future through the occupation of Assab Port, the building of a navy, and so on.
Yet these so-called media outlets remain tongue-tied while young men die or lose their eyes and limbs in the country’s major wars. Meanwhile, mothers and families across #Ethiopia are left in the dark, with no information about the fate of their children.
How can the journalists live with themselves! There is no point to come up with a book of regret after the death and destruction of hundreds of thousands of people.
