@doralewistrue@NYCMayor I agree birth control access could be better and more affordable. However, abortion access is needed healthcare for a variety of reasons beyond just unwanted pregnancies. Having no access to safe abortions kills and endangers the lives of women.
Four years ago, the Supreme Court stripped away a fundamental Constitutional right and put abortion care out of reach for millions of Americans.
Today, we're sending a different message. With New York State, we are investing $495,000 to expand the NYC Abortion Access Hub, connecting more people to abortion care, medication, transportation, lodging and support services, no matter where they live.
Abortion is health care. Health care is a human right. We're protecting that right in New York City.
The criminalization of poverty in transit is not an abstract issue. For many justice affected New Yorkers, like Eduardo, unaffordable transit poses a daily gamble in which they're forced to jeopardize their freedom to access basic mobility.
It's wrong, and @NYCMayor can put an end to it by expanding the Fair Fares program in this year's budget, due in just a few days on July 1.
If not now, when?
Katie Miller has a master's degree and a career. It appears that she has consistently worked since she was 20. She can open a bank account, own property, and have a credit card in her name. She has access to no-fault divorce and would be entitled to child support for her baby if she and Stephen Miller divorce. She has laws protecting her against physical abuse and rape by her spouse. She had access to birth control and abortion, meaning that having a baby was a choice.
She is very much not living the life that the "propaganda. . . convinced" women was oppressive. She is living the life that feminism made possible.
Of course, she knows this. She's just a liar.
Congress should be forced to retire at 70. Salaries should be $60K, the average American salary. They should pay a minimum of $300/month for healthcare with a $1,000 deductible, like we do.
To represent us, they should live like us.
An Auntie Anne’s original pretzel cost about $3.50 in 2009. Today it’s $7.29. The pretzel tracked inflation almost perfectly.
The pretzel is accidentally the most honest inflation tracker in America. It’s priced in flour, sugar, labor, commercial rent, and energy. Every cost that went up in 17 years is baked into that $7.29. One mall receipt tells you more about the economy than most dashboards.
Now do the rest. Gas in 2009 averaged $2.35 a gallon. Today it’s $3.81. Up 62%. The median U.S. home sold for $172,000 in 2009. The latest FRED data has it at $405,300. Up 136%. Average public university tuition went from about $7,000 to $12,000. Up 71%. Health insurance premiums for a family of four went from $13,000 to over $24,000. Up 85%.
Every price in the economy moved. The federal minimum wage of $7.25 was set on July 24, 2009. It has not changed once in 6,088 days. $7.25 in 2009 had the purchasing power of $10.47 today. That’s a 30% silent pay cut delivered one year at a time, while the number on the check never moved.
In 2009, $7.25 bought two Auntie Anne’s pretzels. In 2026, it doesn’t buy one.
The dollar lost 30% of its value. The pretzel adjusted. The wage didn’t.
once i moved into a house without a washing machine. i was like, how hard can it be, i'll just do it by hand.
No. It actually sucks so bad. I did not anticipate how terrible a chore it is. I did a single load and never tried it again
People are so fucking WEIRD about the subway. New Yorkers. tourists. People who’ve never ridden the subway….EVERYONE. It’s the largest transit system in the largest city in the United States. It’s never going to be perfect but it’s certainly not a war zone.
So the killer of the school shooting that took place in British Columbia used ChaptGPT to help them plan the murders of their family and children at a school, OpenAI employees became aware of it, told the CEOs and nothing was done to notify police.
OpenAI needs to 🔥
If your first instinct is to get mad at people experiencing joy, you should look deeply inside of yourself and find out why. I think that’s a massive problem with current times. Too much projection.
