The supply of medical doctors in Malaysia has been shrinking over the past 6 years, with sharp declines across the board in the number of local medical graduates, medical graduates' provisional registrations by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) as medical practitioners, and housemen appointments in the Ministry of Health (MOH):

🔴32% ⬇️ in the number of local medical graduates: 3,902 in 2017 to 2,667 in 2021. This decline was surprisingly higher in 2018-2019 than 2020-2021 during Covid.
🔴49% ⬇️ in the number of medical graduates' provisional registrations by MMC: 6,147 in 2017 to 3,131 in 2022.
🔴47% ⬇️ in the number of house officer appointments in MOH: 6,134 in 2019 to 3,271 in 2023.
