Historically, the Somali region had only one high school, forcing our brothers to travel to Harar for an education.
Under the new leadership, that narrative has completely shifted from merely fighting for basic access to delivering true quality.

Today, we inaugurated two projects in Awbarre District of Faafan Zone: 1) Awbarre Technical and Vocational Training College (built with a total cost of 218 million Birr); and 2) Sheed-dheer Boarding School (built with a total cost of 138 million Birr). Sheed-dheer Boarding School is already providing service, while Awbarre TVET College will start operations at the start of the new fiscal year, i.e., September 2026.

Sheed-dheer Boarding School is one of 11 Boarding schools constructed by Somali Regional State after the 2018 political reform. The region now has a total of 18 boarding schools, and the objective is to use these institutions to improve the quality of education in the region.

We also visited 3 ongoing projects in the district (namely, Awbarre water supply project, Sheed-dheer water supply project, and Awbarre primary hospital), all of which are planned to be completed within six months. These water and health projects are implemented with a total cost of around 1.2 billion Birr.

#Ethiopia: #Somali region battles to control massive fire in #Jigjiga city's major commercial district

Efforts are ongoing to control a massive fire that broke out in Jigjiga city, the capital of Somali regional state, in a shopping district housing commonly known as the New Taiwan Market. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Local media, Somali Fast Info., reported that efforts are currently underway to control the fire by coordinated efforts involving emergency prevention teams, security forces and medical professionals who are are working together to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the city.
