Gamepass launched in 2017.

Not bought a disk since.

@RinoTheBouncer I've been "team digital" since I bought Fallout 4 on physical disk, only to find said disk only contained the Steam client and a stub installer.

Modern games are simply too large to fit on a single disk in many cases, multiple disks = more costs.

@RetroRebellion FYI: You have never owned any piece of software ever. You paid for a licence to use said software and maybe the physical media it came supplied on.

And yes, that applies to free software like Linux too, you own a licence to use (and in many cases modify under certain conditions)

Sometimes you might get lucky and the studio would mail out a patch or fixed version.

Add to that the simple fact that nearly every game released gets multiple patches, often day one... digital download is the only way.
