I'd like to highlight Dr. Justin Bullock (@jbullockruns), a research fellow in the nephrology program at the University of Washington (@UWNephrology) who advocates for greater #MentalHealth support for our nation’s health workers. Let's celebrate him this #BlackHistoryMonth. 1/3
I have 10+ years of university-level education.
But no lecture taught me how to create good visualizations.
These things are crucial for communication but are often not part of the training.
So, let's have a crash course on visualization guidelines anyone can implement. 🧵
"It was always my hope that, as a scientist, I could make some contributions that would benefit human health."
Listen to our conversation with 2022 chemistry laureate @CarolynBertozzi, where she shares why she wanted to become a scientist and the importance of chemistry:
I'm CA's Acting Surgeon General. Today, I'd like to publicly share my journey with bipolar disorder.
Stigma festers in the dark and scatters in the light.
By speaking out, I hope to help dispel stigma. To help anyone struggling know they’re not alone — and to have hope. 1/

Abortion is not just health care, it is a human right. Beyond infringing on bodily autonomy, there are conditions in pregnancy that result in death without safe abortion care. This is a calling for all in medicine to stand on the side of justice https://t.co/8FdGtvwI2L
1/ I'm surprised that people are realizing only now that you can get COVID every 3-4 months even if you have immunity from vaccination or prior infection.
What's important to remember is that vaccination is highly protective against severe COVID.

I do not have words that are powerful enough to describe how important this movement & article are. This is healing-justice care. Please read carefully. #medtwitter

A pinch of pinscher, a dash of 'shund... a pint of pittie for good measure, and what kind of #dog do you get?
Ulti-mutt-ly: a distinct individual.
Happy to share our article on dog genomes, behavior, and MUTTS in @ScienceMagazine! @UMassChan@broadinstitute#ScienceResearch 1/n
Excited to share our pre-print exploring the cellular immune response to acute ZIKV infection by CyTOF and signatures associated with high vs low neutralizing antibody titers. With @UCSF MSTP trainee Elizabeth McCarthy, @SpitzerLab, Pam Odorizzi, others! https://t.co/1sHJtvVirQ
Huge thanks to @r_rutishauser and Pam Odorizzi for being amazing collaborators, mentors, and role models during this project and beyond! Also of course thanks to my training programs @UCSF_MSTP led by Dr. Aimee Kao and the bioinformatics PhD program led by @rdhernand.

We designed two mass cytometry panels focused on profiling multiple activation and differentiation markers on broad immune cells (mono/DC/NK/B/T) to gain a comprehensive assessment of how acute ZIKV infection impacts cellular immune phenotypes.

We collaborated with scientists @VitalantCA who collected longitudinal samples from viremic blood donors in Puerto Rico during the 2015-2016 Zika virus (ZIKV) outbreak in order to follow VL/Ab responses.

Also hugely appreciative of both my PIs @yimmieg and @SpitzerLab (extra thanks for starting me on this project during my lab rotation). And of course have to shout out the Black/underrepresented community at UCSF and beyond @BlackInImmuno@BESTEM_UCSF@ImmunoDiverse
