1/15 Eating disorders in young people - the challenge?
The landscape of eating disorders (EDs) changed so much in a generation. The prevalence amongst 12 to 25 year olds is particularly worrying. As EDs themselves are multifactorial, the nature of the challenge is similar.
PARTICIPANTS NEEDED👀 We are looking for UK-based #ActuallyAutistic folks to take part in a one-to-one interview to help us explore how they feel about their body and certain eating styles
If interested, why not send me (an autistic researcher) an email at [email protected]

Ahead of #EatingDisorderAwarenessWeek, a little PSA from a friendly body image & ED prevention researcher 💁🏾♀️
📢 Side-by-side eating disorder recovery posts (namely photos of emaciated > still thin bodies) are *not* the awareness we need.
Here are two (of many) reasons why.
Such a privilege to work with these brilliant teams from @UHSussex who are working incredibly hard to deliver compassionate care to all those with ED’s on their wards. Inspiring to hear about what they’ve put into practice since our last training #eatingdisorderawarenessweek
Please find our new paper on ngt feeding under restraint. Thanks to @DashaNicholls and @DrJacintaTan for the collaboration and support!

#Christmas can be a difficult time for those with #eatingdisorders. @beccagregson15 has created a pack for YP & families to take home; providing a 'go-to' resource that is based on the individualised conversations that are had in dietetic sessions #mentalhealth#camhs#dietitians
'....An individualized, patient-centered approach to estimating target body weight more accurately estimated target body weight than standardized,
median BMI approach. An individualized approach to treatment may improve a patient's likelihood of full recovery.'

'...PH strategies to ⬇️burden of EDs are likely cost saving. Prevention that promotes healthy nutrition, physical activity, and media use of behaviors without introducing weight stigma may prevent additional negative health outcomes'

@embodied_eating Language around food, bodies & health; because what we say matters & especially from positions of 'professionalism' (education/health, etc). Move away from judgemental language, be aware of personal & professional bias & introduce curosity (just as a starter 😄)
🧵Thread: What does Embodied Eating do, and why do we do it?
The number of young ppl struggling with an ED has risen dramatically, leaving ED services overwhelmed, parents unsupported and non-specialist professionals picking up the pieces with little training.
We want to help
@embodied_eating ED care for fat patients is extremely lacking. Any ED specialists offering things like “weight management” is a 🚩 Great ED care includes fat practicioners with lived experience. Care should be mental health focussed, not physical health focussed
