Our trust has announced they are now capping locum rates to £20 for FY1s and £30 for FY2s
Starting immediately, including pre-booked locums agreed at a higher rate
So safe to say we are now all cancelling and boycotting locums. Let’s hope it works.
@Dr_BellaR 1. 20min slots from the start (same as GP trainees)
2. 12 appts per day
3. Have a long break in middle of the day but end up using it for admin & visits
Had a menty b last week about not being able to keep up, so now having an extra blocked appt each session for admin 🫠
@iDrSunny@agemjourney I’m sure it’s worse for IMGs/POC but definitely true for female doctors in general. Particularly obvious when starting new jobs in FY1, male colleagues given a lot more support, whereas female colleagues laughed at / been rude to with regards to not knowing certain things
Enjoying medicine so much there is a part of me that has thought maybe I could survive being med reg after all…
I’m applying for psych training this time, but if work/life balance was the same for both I would be really struggling to pick
Is there a way that rota teams can set the rota so LTFT gaps don’t disproportionately affect some people more than others?
(Obvious answer in the short term is to actively try to fill the gap ie. decent notice +/- escalated rates) 3/3
Turned up to my night shift last night to find out I was the only SHO on medical clerking. The GPST who my rota syncs up with is LTFT so always has 1 less night (not a problem in itself) which obvious the rota team is very aware of… 1/
They sent an email advertising for a Locum at 5pm yesterday, which obviously did not get filled. Knowing my trust they would NOT have escalated the rate.
Is it valid to feel pissed off that I can expect to be on my own for at least one shift on each of my on call runs? /2
@iamlivyrose Was asked to do the section 2 for a patient as an FY1, when I calmly explained to the Cons (who should have known) that I am not allowed to do sections, he acted as if I was being over dramatic!
@Dr_BellaR Baked Easter cakes/cookies when I left my last rotation, told people it was my last day, no one cared (despite having seemingly good relationships for the 4 months) and no one even said bye at the end of the day
It is so emotionally draining living somewhere you don’t want to be, has given me a whole new sense of what it must be like for FY1s who are shipped off to unknown places away from friends and family
FY2 salary is low enough that by working a long day standard (non-escalated) BH rates locum shift on the Monday and then striking Tues-Friday...I'll be £77 up for the week
@drlavsmd Our hospital put pronouns on our badges… except they didn’t ask, every feminine presenting person has she/her and every masculine presenting person has he/him… talk about performative allyship
The media blackout on the junior doctors strike is so weird. Thousands out marching in Manchester yesterday, not a single article that I can see (and I have actively looked) #JuniorDoctorsStrike#bma
No medical FY1 overnight this week in my trust after they refused to escalate rate for twilight to switch to night at short notice. The night FY1 had also been off day before with illness and they still didn’t think to provide any notice / escalate rates.
I’ve heard about a trust that left a site without medical cover for an evening because they refused to escalate rates. Normally one junior covering out of hours, in this instance 0. Frankly, it’s outrageous that there are no repercussions. Maybe heavy fines would make them care
How many ambulances can you spot?
29hr wait in A&E. 40 to clerk in AMU when I arrived last night.
