Purple house, garden gnomes, and an alien obsession won’t keep 12 YO Mandy from loving her Grandpa Harry who’s not dead but living in Dodge City. Learning why her mom lied about him could mean losing a stable purple home and the grandpa she needs. #PitMad, #MG, #CON.
really frustrating to see disability rep being excluded from the conversation about whether OwnVoices has outlived its purpose, especially considering 1) the hashtag was coined by a disabled author 2) published disability rep is still mostly non-OV and mostly terrible
Just found an Edinburgh Fringe theatre ticket in my coat pocket. What I wouldn’t give to be back in that room full of sleepless strangers drinking plastic pints and watching something full of life.
For 6 months there's been someone in my family whatsapp group who I thought was my dad but was in fact a random called Peter (my dad's name). This person has sat and read every message and never thought to chime in to inform us that we've added the wrong Peter
In today's things-to-be-thankful for, my darling kitty is being her usual perfect self and I've had a really reassuring medical appointment this afternoon.
We've got one of the strictest lockdowns in the world acc to recent research and latest 'semi-normal life' timeline looks a bit rubbish, so going to focus on the happy things in life I can get for myself rather than those that are dependent on the government being reasonable.
Turns out paracetemol with caffeine makes knee pain bearable, but it makes it impossible to sleep. Huh, lesson learned. Guess I'll finish reading a book 😅
Imagine appearing in a court proceeding as a kitten and having to declare that you're not actually a cat and still not cracking the top two worst lawyer performances that received national attention today.
Writers: Know which part of your support system to call on and when. Ideally, you have relationships in three distinct areas: (1) mentorship (2) critique (3) accountability https://t.co/pZZPbK3caz — insight from @jaconoley #amwriting
@jaconoley Huh. Finished it and it ended up being a fun ride, aside from some problematic things. Wouldn't recommend it to teens I know for that reason, but was enjoyable in the end.
Reading a YA at the moment which has a main character who is really squicking me out. The MC threatened to share intimate photos of girls with the school... Not sure whether to DNF... maybe the protagonist is recognised as a bad guy in the end?
@jaconoley Time limits is a great idea! I'm giving it until page 100 (currently at p.50) and if he doesn't show a hint of upcoming character growth it's gone...
Hey, today I told my therapist that the adrenaline I’ve been relying on for the past 10 months or so has kinda... run out.
He said he’s been hearing that from like every other client this month, so if you’re feeling that too, you’re not alone.
