ML Manager @apple. Once upon a time: coding, open science ,open data, beer and skiing, not necessarily in that order. Research faculty, Dept of Bio @uvmvermont
@CaltransDist3 what's happening? We are all stopped at Donner Summit, have been stuck here almost 2 hours. No information about what's happening. What's going on? We only have so much gas.
@carina_plant True. Every 40 something PhD I know regrets it and feels financial FOMO compared to their non-PhD peers. The flip side is lots of us who left academia to work in tech/biotech make high comp, and can do some catching up. Not sure the math works out, but better than being a prof.
I'm hiring to my team. Looking for a strong product data scientists with experience in AB testing / Bayesian methods, and ML production experience to join my team working on 🍏services search and discovery. If you or someone you know is looking for a new opportunity let me know!
Oh hi. I have two open data science reqs that I'm actively hiring for, so I figured I would ask one more time on twitter before I start trying to find candidates on clubhouse...
@robinhoodapp cutting off their customers from trading stocks because some don’t like the outcome raises lots of questions. We should invite them over to answer them. My first one will be “What has changed since 2016?”
Best line from @Noahpinion piece on PhD over production: “This condemns many would-be scholars to a bleak existence of low-wage, contingent work. Like waiters hanging around Hollywood hoping for their big break...” (unrelated, I’m hiring right now) https://t.co/dKtK8RGBXl
Government: Please do not leave your homes so we have time to prepare for the upcoming wave of covid cases.
*a few months pass*

@vboykis@substack Thanks, that’s useful context. I think the the newsletter is great, and I look forward to reading more of your thoughts and insights.
Trying to do more than dip my toe in to @substack , but I still can’t differentiate between free and paid tiers for many. Even with @vboykis, with a great description, I’m not clear what paying does. Is the extra email more of free? Is it more in-depth? Am I missing something?
