Feels like massive overreach to use a national emergency alert system like that. Surely it’s meant to be for ‘drop everything and prepare for something terrible’ situations.
Can't help but feel the government should probably have a text alert noise that is at least slightly different for "don't use a disposable barbecue for a bit, please" and "NUCLEAR WAR HAS BEGUN".
the sheer CONCEPT of the UNITED KINGDOM getting an EMERGENCY ALERT for very high wildfire risk because of heat. dawg. At what point do we just lock in and stop denying climate change.
why did the uk government send out a SEVERE ALERT ALARM for the possibility of wildfires. not even an actual one. there Might be one In The Future. but we had to know now. at three million decibels.
@PolitlcsUK This was an absolute abuse of power. This Alert functionality is meant for warnings to danger to life. Not for ‘please don’t have a bbq’ messages.
All this will result in is people now switching this functionality off!

@andyburnham we talk of the damage social media does.
This videos is so widely available this could encourage those feeling a certain way to act or give ideas. We need greater regulations and it must be quick. We have done the talking, the stats are there, this is dangerous.
@andyburnham after the horrific live streamed of Perez Hilton last night. What greater regulations are you going to place on social media companies.
This video was live streamed for sometime. And actively still circulating largely on all UK platforms.
Guys genuinely I think we should have done a lot more for Sarah Everard. She was abducted and murdered in broad daylight by a police officer. The police knew he was volatile and a danger to women specifically but also POC along with his partners and they just made it go away
