Thank you so much, my sister, for your kind words and support. I know how close this struggle is to your heart. It’s heartbreaking that, to this day, people are still being denied citizenship and subjected to ethnic cleansing simply for being Tutsi in the DRC.

My work in #TheSnowfall is not only about remembrance. It’s also a form of resistance. It’s a way to push back against the growing spread of genocide ideology in our region and beyond, including in Europe and North America. It’s time for us—survivors of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi and victims of the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Congolese Tutsi—to unite, to speak, to write, and to ensure that no future generation is ever persecuted or exterminated for being Tutsi.

And thank you for the Mother's Day thought, it truly means a lot. I actually have a little story about that😃: Mother’s Day always falls around May 7, the day my mum was killed. So, it is always the hardest time for me to be online.

Le Général Héros Rukundwa Michel, alias Makanika : Un Stratège Déterminé et un Défenseur Inébranlable

Le Général Héros Rukundwa Michel, connu sous le nom de Makanika, n’était pas un combattant ordinaire. Il a volontairement quitté une position stable, bien rémunérée et protégée par un régiment militaire pour défendre sa communauté abandonnée par l’État congolais.

Face à une tragédie où plus de 1 500 personnes avaient déjà perdu la vie, plus de 350 villages avaient été incendiés, et 80 % des biens pillés et revendus, il a pris une décision courageuse : traverser seul, avec une petite escorte, un territoire dangereux contrôlé par des groupes armés hostiles.

À son arrivée, il a découvert une communauté meurtrie, désespérée et privée de tout soutien extérieur. Plutôt que de céder à la résignation, il a organisé une autodéfense locale avec de jeunes Banyamulenge “Twirwaneho”, démunis d’armes, et a adopté une stratégie ingénieuse : récupérer les armes des ennemis vaincus. Grâce à cette approche tactique, ses troupes ont pu progressivement se renforcer et affronter des adversaires bien plus nombreux et mieux équipés.

Les Banyamulenge des hauts plateaux du Sud-Kivu faisaient face à une offensive coordonnée d’une coalition comprenant des milices Mai-Mai, des combattants étrangers des groupes Red Tabara et FDLR, ainsi que certains éléments des FARDC. Ces forces, agissant de manière concertée, avaient un objectif explicite : effacer les Banyamulenge de la carte de la République Démocratique du Congo.

Malgré cette menace existentielle, Makanika s’est imposé par son leadership, fédérant et organisant la résistance locale avec discipline, courage et une stratégie redoutable. Son engagement sans faille a permis de neutraliser progressivement les forces hostiles et de protéger sa communauté contre une extermination.

Makanika a mené des opérations de défense et de reconquête dans plusieurs régions où les Banyamulenge avaient été chassés. Les principaux groupes armés responsables de ces attaques étaient :

🔹 Minembwe : Mai-Mai Biloze Bishambuke, Mulumba, Yakutumba, Ebuela et Groupe Aoci
🔹 Kamombo : Mai-Mai Ebuela, Biloze Bishambuke
🔹 Lulenge : Mai-Mai Biloze Bishambuke, Mulumba et Groupe Aoci
🔹 Bibogobogo : Groupe Jimmy (affilié à Mai-Mai Yakutumba), Mupasula (Fuliru) et Toronto (Mai-Mai de Mutambala)
🔹 Mibunda : Mai-Mai Ebuela, Biloze Bishambuke et Groupe Aoci
🔹 Bijombo : Mai-Mai Ilunga, Mushombe, Kashumba
🔹 Rurambo et Gatobwe : Mai-Mai Biloze Bishambuke, Ilunga, Kashumba, Mushombe, Nguvu za Milima (Bembe) et Luma (Nyindu)

Grâce à son sens tactique et son engagement total, Makanika a réussi à neutraliser ces forces hostiles. De nombreuses milices ont été affaiblies, et certaines totalement dispersées. Malgré les attaques répétées, les Banyamulenge ont pu préserver leur présence dans plusieurs villages.

La détermination du Général Héros Makanika a transformé le désespoir en résistance, et la résistance en victoire. Son courage et son génie stratégique resteront gravés dans l’histoire de son peuple.

Honneur aux parents du Général Makanika et à la communauté Banyamulenge.
Paix à son âme.
