@danielcincu @bill14051 @DJSnM They would never have enough energy to overcome the engine thrust, considering that same thrust is what launched them in the first place. First law of thermodynamics and all that. Staggered engine startup is a good counter argument though.

@DJSnM Scott, how would debris overcome the massive thrust surrounding the area immediately below the rocket? I imagine it’s much like a water tap that you open onto a thick layer of sand. The sand would crater, but I’m pretty sure none would get into the tap itself?
