#IDNWatch🇮🇩: Today, Indonesian officials confirmed that the death toll from Friday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake has reached at least 47 people.
A tsunami warning has been issued.
Stay tuned.
INDONESIA EARTHQUAKE TURNS DEADLY AS DEATH TOLL SURGES
The true scale of this earthquake is starting to come into focus.
At least 47 people are now confirmed dead after the massive M7.7 struck Flores.
Homes collapsed. Landslides cut off roads. Around 2,000 people have been forced from their homes.
And some of the hardest-hit communities still haven’t been reached.
More than 235 aftershocks have followed, including another powerful M6.2.
This is getting worse as rescuers push deeper into the damage.
👇 Anyone across Flores still feeling these aftershocks?

Even I am in awe at the signal we’re seeing for the Atlantic given the background conditions.
I knew we could get development out of one of these waves, but what the models are showing right now, I never would’ve guessed would be attainable.
Of course, this could all be smoke.
Some big time changes in the 8 pm Advisory.
A brand new AOI has been marked in the MDR in association with a trailing wave that is coming off of Africa right now.
This in my opinion has a greater chance to develop than the red AOI.
Our far northern AOI has also been bumped up.
BREAKING: A magnitude 7.4 earthquake has occurred in western Colombia. It had a depth of about 60 miles. The USGS estimated a most likely scenario of 100 to 1,000 fatalities, and an economic loss of $100 million to $1 billion.
This was a mostly strike-slip quake with some thrust — meaning *most* of the slippage was from side-to-side movement as pieces of crust slid past one another.
Moreover, the USGS believes significant liquefaction occurred — meaning the addition of stress briefly gave the soils/rock a muddy, liquidy characteristic. That may have allowed structures to shift/tilt or sink into the ground a bit.
Damaging aftershocks are likely!
🚨🇴BREAKING: Apocalyptic scenes in Colombia as the Cathedral in Manizales collapses under the force of the earthquake.
People watch in fear and disbelief as the towers of one of Colombia’s oldest Christian cathedrals come crashing down.

El Centro Administrativo Municipal de Cali (CAM) también sufrió afectaciones en medio del terremoto vivido en Cali en la mañana de este lunes 10 de agosto.
This morning's magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Colombia caused strong shaking across western Columbia. An estimated 1.5 million people experienced shaking near intensity 7, strong enough to cause damage to unreinforced masonry buildings especially. The earthquake occurred at a depth of ~100 km, within the slab of old seafloor sinking beneath the South American continent. These so-called intermediate depth, interslab earthquakes are less dangerous than shallow earthquakes of the same magnitude because the fault break is farther from the earth's surface. But these faults also break in a way that releases energy at frequencies that are damaging to buildings. Intermediate depth earthquakes tend to have fewer aftershocks than more shallow quakes, but strong aftershocks are possible and pose a continuing hazard during rescue and recovery.

Another huge seismic event has once again occurred in Northern South America just 650 miles from the recent giant twin earthquakes (M7.2 & M7.5) on June 30.
This massive earthquake in Columbia measured M7.4 and the shaking map shows it was felt at least 270 miles from the epicenter.
This is an evolving event, it is too early on to fully assess any possible damage this may have caused.
This was a very big earthquake and more than likely aftershocks are probable.
Stay tuned for more updates.

COLOMBIA: At least 20 people have been killed after a powerful M7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia today.
Buildings have collapsed, people are trapped under rubble and evacuations have been ordered as far away as Bogotá.
As we enter mid-August, the 2026 African "wave train" may be leaving the station. A tropical wave currently over western Africa will emerge over the eastern Atlantic on Tuesday and has some chance to develop into a tropical storm. Multiple physics-based and AI-based models depict the wave rolling off with enough amplitude and moisture to potentially self-organize in its first few days over water. Most ensemble guidance gives this about ~20% chance of occurring right now.
Long-term prospects for the system would likely dim, with stronger than average trade winds combining with a stronger than average TUTT to produce a hostile zone of high vertical shear near and east of the Caribbean. This would likely shred apart any storm approaching the Lesser Antilles if one does form, but it remains a bit early to be certain. We'll keep an eye on this wave next week just in case.
