@marieklennon Oh Marie, I feel so moved reading this, you are glorious and I’m SO grateful for all the support and all the many times you’ve given my Mum a shoutout over the years! You have landmarked some really lovely moments. Whatever the next chapter is will be so lucky to have you ❤️
Just got a bit lost, good lost, in the writing of a start of a song and it occurred to me that the best part of days are when we get lost, good lost, in our things.
I'm *sick* of women being told that keeping ourselves safe is OUR responsibility. Our brains constantly whirring & being one step ahead & on lookout. It is EXHAUSTING. It doesn't matter what time, walking, Uber, whatever. The problem is NEVER what the women was doing at the time.
Surge in (young) Covid admissions. Nearly all unvaccinated. All not fully vaccinated (as in, one jab). Consequences of Covid requiring hospital in 20-30 year olds is 30% chronic organ damage affecting lives one year later. By all means weigh up risks, but Covid is not a cold.
It’s the extra mile in the #NHS that no one sees. Here is a table set-up for two of our patients for breakfast today, fresh flowers on the table, classical music playing in the background, eggs and bacon in the pan….
Most striking unanswered question from the Dominic Cummings photo of the Downing St Covid planning whiteboard from March 13, 2020:
"6. Who do we not save?"
The NHS depends on people who are selfless, compassionate and resilient. People that do not work for salary or numbers. The government seems insistent on continually exploiting other people’s kindness for more money in their own pockets.
I feel it’s important to reiterate - for the record - that while @10DowningStreet fell apart (as per Cummings), the NHS spent Feb & March 2020 transforming itself from top to bottom - a Herculean effort against horrific odds - to become an emergency pandemic service. (1/n)

Our rehab unit transformed and re-resourced itself to become a COVID End of Life unit almost overnight. Staff re-trained and, those who could, put themselves forward for more additional hours, contactable 24/7, knowing there would be nothing additional in it for them.

The sheer *relief*, as a frontline NHS doctor, to hear someone, somewhere, FINALLY take responsibility for the incompetence, the ineptitude, the shameful neglect of our most vulnerable, the dithering, the chaos, the THOUSANDS of lives unnecessarily lost.
I’m actually weeping 😔
