IDK how the mayor can say the budget has "overwhelming support" when there's a whole ass movement with hundreds of very informed people and orgs who oppose it, or at least who oppose aspects of it. That does not seem very "overwhelm" to me.
Mayor Whitmire said today that getting the unhoused off the streets maintains the "viability" of downtown, because corporate "employees did not want to come back to work after COVID because they didn't want to encounter the homeless population."
CM Carter today about law enforcement at 419 Emancipation Ave: "This is their second job. They work their full time job and this is their second job."
But why? Why isn't working at 419 a job job? Why we gotta pay them overtime for that?

Currently, the FY27 proposed budget allocates $0 in a line item to combat illegal dumping, which is an issue that 1 in 4 Houstonians identify as an environmental issue in their neighborhood.
Our amendment closes this gap by reallocating $3 million from the management consulting budget to directly address illegal dumping that is harming our communities.
Here are my notes for the Houston city council meeting on May 27, 2026. Highlights include an update on how the Ebola outbreak might affect Houston (not much, it seems) and public comment, which I don't usually cover.
