@mcnicholson It is very unsettling that, on top of the loss of jobs, lack of financial security, and increased social distancing during this frightening pandemic, that there is also an increase in abuse of spouses, children, and the elderly with limited ways to get help. #GS1000W2082
During Katz’s talk, he made many important points, especially when he expressed that both men and women need to start working together, rather than against each other. It made me very happy to see that men are not afraid to speak out about these types of issues. #GS1000W2082
@_amandapilgrim In this day and age, it is shameful that any kind of work people do can often go unrecognized. It is so disappointing that women still have to fight for things such as recognition and/or pay. #GS1000W2082
Hearing about gender inequalities, such as unpaid care work, makes me so upset. The work that so many women do is undervalued and unappreciated. Our goal should be to have a fair and supportive world for all humans, regardless of gender! #GS1000W2082
@KaelieOake Doctors and nurses are supposed to empathize and listen, not ignore. It is so disheartening and frustrating to see how women’s health concerns can be so easily downplayed and neglected. #GS1000W2082
When a person goes to the doctor, they should be able to trust that the doctor will listen to them, empathize with them, believe them, as well as support and care for them. This chapter brought me to the harsh reality that this is not always the case. #GS1000W2082
@OffreyRebecca There should not be one unrealistic standard of beauty for everyone. Every person is beautiful in their own way, regardless of whatever height, shape, size, or colour they may be! ♥️✨ #GS1000W2082
During Cameron’s TedTalk, she introduced a very surprising survey. Out of 677 models on a runway, 27 (less than 4%) were non-white. This observation is very discouraging. Diversity is SO important and the fashion industry should become more representative of this. #GS1000W2082
@DingwellAshley I totally agree. I always assumed this was a very happy and positive celebration. I was completely unaware of all the negative history associated with the origin of Canada, as a country. #GS1000W2082
After watching the video about Canada celebrating 150 years, I was incredibly upset to hear about all the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse that took place in residential schools. Although this happened many years ago, people are still learning how to heal. #GS1000W2082
@DingwellAshley I agree. They have the same feelings, aspirations, and desires as anyone else. They should not be judged on their appearance or what people assume to be disadvantages. People need to stop focusing on the differences, as they are just like everyone else! #GS1000W2082
I found Lea’s TedTalk to be incredibly informative and encouraging. She is remarkable and unstoppable. I have a cousin who has osteogenesis imperfecta, just like Lea. I have always looked up to her, as she has so much brilliance to share with the world.♥️ #GS1000W2082
@_morgankirby_ The idea of two-spirit is new to me as well. However, I believe more people should be introduced to this term as I think it is remarkable and deserves awareness!
Sexuality is extremely personal and is oftentimes very complex. However, It is important to recognize that everyone is different and it is essential to support, accept, and encourage others to be who they are and love who they love. #GS1000W2082
@amsaunders37 I could not agree more. I believe that this education should start with young children. It is essential for children to be able to grow up being accepted, supported and loved for who they are as well as understanding and appreciating everyone’s differences.
It is very important to recognize that everyone is different, not just based on how someone may look or act, but how their body is made up and/or how they choose to identify, in regards to gender. Education is key for promoting understanding and acceptance. #GS1000W2082
@LauraJKelly00 Awareness and education are super important, so that people are knowledgeable about what these terms mean and how they can impact society as a whole.
After viewing a TedTalk with Dr. Kimmel, I felt like I had a much better understanding of the term privilege. This video made me realize that we are all in this together. Gender equality benefits everyone and is something to embrace, not resist. #GS1000W2082
