@Jamesoneillii It's so petty, and it's gets nobody anywhere. All so polarised. No matter what you say, you're someone's enemy. It's so draining, and it just impedes progress.
@AskUrLoclGerman The figures are from the Teagasc National Farm Survey 2020, and their breakdown doesn't indicate that income tax has been applied (i.e. take it as gross income!) https://t.co/lZBZcjpcWW
A really positive experience on @ClaireByrneLive last night. It was excellent to see such extensive coverage on climate change with so many voices speaking out. Let's be clear on agriculture; we need to change to save our futures. A follow up thread ๐ (1/)
@PhilipTyndall@lstwrd Yes, huge monopolisation issues. I don't blame farmers in any way for being rightly skeptical of change, we've been burned so many times before. We need strong, action from representatives to fight for our interests. Everything can be negotiated, I am certain of it.
Really interesting discussion on @lstwrd.
An important point: Ireland will still produce high volumes of top quality meat and dairy produce. We just have to do it at a sustainable level.
The alarmist language that rural communities will be decimated just doesn't stack up.
Thanks Matt for facilitating, and to Pat McCormack of @icmsa for taking part. We need more dialogue, not less.
Outstanding contribution by @emmabeecee, great to hear such progressive thinking & problem-solving being given airtime.
@AThinkingWoman I am fully aware of this. 'We' refers to farmers. Farmers need support to facilitate the transitions that need to happen with respect to emissions. Current models are not working for farmers on the ground.
@AThinkingWoman In fairness, we'd all be fairly stuck if farmers didn't farm; we don't ask farmers to do it because we don't have to, they're already doing it. I meant it more from the angle that they're certainly not in it for the money, it really is work of passion.
@JamieRohu@ClaireByrneLive All we can do it keep trying! It takes practice, and I get it wrong more often than not. Our voices are a powerful tool ๐
Really looking forward to speaking on @ClaireByrneLive tonight about agriculture and how we can mould a sustainable future for our farms and our environment #cblive#COP26
I have never been so hopeful about the future of Irish agri. We have an opportunity to reshape our sector in a way that works for us. We have the skills. We know what we need to do. Let's build a better future, together, let's #SaveIrishAgri. (10/)
What we need is support. We need strong, impartial leadership negotiating with policymakers on behalf of our farming communities. We need to speak with farmers, not at them. We need the negative, self-serving, and inaccurate rhetoric to stop. (9/)
