Congratulations Sue. You have been a pleasure to work with and a true ambassador for water safety. You will be greatly missed. #rtw#saferthames#retirement
This week we said goodbye to Sue Spurrs in our Prevention and Protection department. For 26 years Sue has worked on projects aimed at making the city a safer place for Londoners.
Thank you for all your work Sue, and we wish you all the best in retirement!
These photos are from a demonstration at @LFBWestminster's recent open day at #Soho Fire Station, but last year we attended 4,500 real road traffic collisions

Tempted by a #BlackFriday e-bike or e-scooter online bargain deal? Or the batteries or chargers for them?
Take a look at our advice first - or you could be putting yourself and others at risk 🔥
E-bikes and e-scooters are London’s fastest-growing fire trend.
This week, @BBCLondonNews joined us for a look inside a #Kingston flat recently destroyed by an e-bike fire.

Be careful if you're having a BBQ this weekend - we don't want to be invited! 🔥☀️
❌No disposable BBQs in parks or open spaces
❌No BBQs on a balcony
⚠️Never leave a BBQ unattended
⚠️Keep a BBQ well away from things like fences, sheds and trees

It's another warm day but autumn is just around the corner 🧣🎃☕
If you've got logs stored near your log burner, it's time to move them away before you light it. Radiated heat can cause them to burn #CFSW2023@hetas_uk
It's #999Day!
The services the Brigade provides are possible because of the hard work of our people.
Whether they're firefighters, control officers, staff in our enabling services, or volunteers, as a team they collectively work together to keep Londoners and London safe.
On #WorldDrowningPreventionDay the family of 14-year-old Brian Sasu, who tragically drowned last year, have joined us in calling for councils and parents not to wait before it’s too late to prevent drownings this summer https://t.co/eWgGxuCDAE
Alongside the family of 14-year-old Brian Sasu who sadly drowned last year, we’re calling on parents and councils to help prevent drownings this summer.
Catch us on @BBCLondonNews and @itvlondon tonight to find out more #WorldDrowningPreventionDay https://t.co/eWgGxuDbqc
Today we observer World Drowning Prevention Day which is marked each year on July 25, with the aim of increasing awareness about the devastating and enduring effects of drowning on families and communities.
Drowning disproportionately affects people of African Caribbean and Asian heritage.
As producer of the Blacks Can’t Swim film documentaries, cofounder of the Black Swimming Association, and some one only recently learning to swim, this is very important to me, and together we are addressing the issue through consultancy, research, advocacy education and support.
Together let’s change the narrative 👍🏾

Every year, drowning claims at least 236,000 lives. It's one of the leading causes of death 🌐 for children & people aged 1-24 years. We can all take action to end drowning 🏊 https://t.co/7CSUGYBk49
We’ve seen a number of throwline boards installed by order of the coroner after someone has drowned. We want to see this happen before a life is lost, so we’ve written to local authorities asking them to ensure they have water safety measures in place to prevent another tragedy
We'll be at #Teddington Lock between 12pm- 4pm today showing people how to use throwlines.
Come along with your family - it might just save a life one day @LBRUT#WorldDrowningPreventionDay
@Londonfire have been working with Brian's family and as part of #WorldDrowningPreventionDay we are calling for councils to help prevent drownings by ensuring their bodies of water have adequate public rescue equipment as well as promoting key water safety messaging #RTW#NWSF
