The Chagoury Brothers — Nigeria’s ultimate power brokers were out last night for EKO Hotel’s 50th Anniversary👑.
What do you know about the men behind the name?
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has inaugurated the construction of a $16bn oil refinery in Lamu, on Kenya’s coast.
Five African heads of state attended the ceremony, which comes as local communities challenge the project.
But this is more than a refinery. It is an integrated industrial complex featuring a 1,000MW power plant, plastic factory and the manufacturing of fertilisers and chemicals.
In a crisis, supply does not go everywhere.
It goes where it is prioritised.
The question is simple:
Is Africa on that list?

KAA Welcomes Mr. Aliko Dangote to Manda Airstrip
KAA MD/CEO, Mr. Moses Wekesa, officially receives renowned business leader and investor Mr. Aliko Dangote upon his arrival at Manda Airport, Lamu, ahead of tomorrow’s historic East African Oil Refinery ground-breaking ceremony.
Aliko Dangote’s refinery is bigger than any in Europe, and his IPO is the largest yet in Africa. Now he wants 10 million Africans to own a stake in it. https://t.co/pG0jCd1hfM
Aliko Dangote says that the Lamu Refinery is potentially a ~ US$30.0 billion/annum turnover enterprise.
He reminds me that Kenya's FX reserves, at the present peak, are just about half that (currently US$15.04 billion, 6.1 months of import cover).
