Environmental Health scientist, interested in infectious disease dynamics and spatial epidemiology | PhD Candidate - Viroscience Erasmus MC | @OneHealthPact
Great paper by PhD student Louella Kasbergen. Massive piece of work, looking into the quality of studies using serology for arbovirus exposure testing. This is often done, but quite challenging due to cross reactive antibodies 1/..
[Job 🔴] Interested in AMR epidemiology?
This is for you 🙂. ▶️https://t.co/sfbJCgfHnW

AMR data identification, extraction, curation, analysis.
Every week, the Public Health Virology team @ErasmusMC receives samples collected from wild birds across the Netherlands and screens them for #arboviruses. Pics: @TjommeM & M. Groen ringing and sampling birds, sample unpacking and @AtamaNnomzie testing by RT-PCR. #OneHealth
Very interesting and diverse week with @OneHealthPact! Mosquito identification, wild bird catching and metagenomic sequencing for arboviral surveillance in wildlife. @BlomRody @TjommeM@MarionKoopmans@Essenburgpark
Beautiful phylogenomic study of Maverick transposons of vertebrates: @josegabrielnb and @ArisKatzourakis conclude that Mavericks represent an ancient lineage of mostly aquatic dsDNA viruses, which integrated into animal host genomes and have persisted for ~ 419 million years!
[SHORT THREAD] We comprehensively screened vertebrate genomes for Mavericks (also known as polintons) a group of virus-like selfish genetic elements, and revealed an extensive genomic fossil record in 143 species, going back ~419 million years. 1/n
Hurricane Eta brought torrential rain to much of Central America. Join in the project on the Tasking Manager to help finish the basemap of Honduras, supporting the work of the @ifrc. There is still some mapping and validating to be done: https://t.co/UAPSpMEvdB
Mink COVID-19 outbreak in a farm in the north of Greece too. All samples tested are positive, many sick animals, 10/91 workers on the farm test positive too.

Thanks to our collaborative effort our paper describing the situation on the Dutch mink farms is out! @MarionKoopmans @ReinaSikkema @WimvanderPoel1 @ArjanStegeman @emmanuelle_mun and a lot more.

Our study describing a phylogeographic and phylodynamic framework for epidemiological hypothesis testing is now published in @NatureComms. We show how to exploit genomic data to formally test the impact of environmental factors on the dispersal dynamics of West Nile virus
Great to see the excitement around our paper! IgA forms an immunological shield at this important barrier. Special thanks to Zach Fitzpatrick who worked tirelessly on this. 💪 Gut-educated IgA plasma cells defend the meningeal venous sinuses | Nature https://t.co/lZLPENPUXh
ICU in CH (29.10.2020)
➡️Exponential increase of COVID-19 patients in ICU. But so far compensated by limiting non-covid patients. This already has consequences on health, and it is no long term solution.
➡️2nd wave could largely exceed the first wave, even if lockdown today.
