@NinaGrossman@TheShoeLady33@overloaded_writ Sending much compassion to you and your colleagues. Being fired without cause is an exquisitely painful and lonely experience, even in the company of colleagues. Weak leaders without accountability harm people.
@jason_metcalfe@bobmackin@BCLegislature Right? He should have gotten a month just for those short sleeve dress shirts, but patriarchy is real. Oh well, no big surprise. Not like he was going to suddenly learn ethics at 71 and start contributing to society. Jail is probably better off without him.
🚨JUST IN: Ex-@BCLegislature Clerk Craig James sentenced to one month house arrest, then curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for breach of public trust for two months. #bcpoli#corruption
Oh correction, his salary was $350k, not a mere $250k. Totally legit for someone who self-identified in court as “incompetent” and who worked 4 days/week, 18 weeks/year & could not spend taxpayer money fast enough on int’l “goodwill” junkets the rest of the time. Pay. It. Back.
Oh he’s willing to pay back $1,900? What a fucking hero. He keeps his full pension on a $250k salary for all the years his own lawyer argued that he was incompetent, plus an extra quarter-mil retirement allowance he wasn’t entitled to. Stealing from BC pays, it seems!
I possess no power, clout, political connections, or influence. I don’t expect my voice to be heard; we seem to only listen to those who hold power. I value integrity, tho, & the truth is that Craig James & Gary Lenz both deserve to be jailed for fraud. They stole from you, BC.
Oh goody, I have some reading material to take the sting out of the memory I just got emailed of the time I was asked to make a picture book from these photos. As gifts, naturally!!!
@bobmackin@BCLegislature Strange that none of the 12 Speakers since John Reynolds/anyone from the years CJ was Clerk? Not former Premier @christyclarkbc who appointed him? Apparently no one who ever saw his expense or travel claims would petition for any reduced accountability for Craig James, felon.
Craig James listened to impassioned debates about provincial funding cuts, poverty, disability, & marginalization while constantly planning no-expense-spared trips and feathering his own nest for YEARS. He is a fraud, he has NO integrity, and should go to jail AND reimburse BC.
The legislature congratulates itself for finally writing policies that might prevent some entitlement fraud by the overpaid people they appoint to oversee the passing of the same laws that failed to convict James & Lenz for the self-enrichment they openly committed for years.
Statement from @BCLegSpeaker, Hon. Raj Chouhan, following the judgment of Associate Chief Justice Holmes of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. ⬇️

I don’t think anyone fully grasps the rental crisis here in #VictoriaBC. A client listed their 1bed/1bath condo for rent at $1,800 and received 45 applications in half a day. They were completely overwhelmed with personal stories/situations. #yyj#yyjre#HousingCrisis#BC
At a *ridiculous* self-appointed salary of $350k a year, taking an “extra” retirement “bonus” of $250k isn’t “inept”.
Inept = making a silly mistake that doesn’t line your own pocket. This is pure avarice, greed and corruption. He deserves jail for using #taxpayermoney this way
@ZigNay@bobmackin@BCLegislature It’s not a matter of bravery. CJ had total authority over every single person employed by the Leg. There WAS no oversight or ANY recourse to dispute, review, or appeal ANY of his decisions. He had a lifetime appointment to the role (+ honestly, the warmth & humanity of a trout.)
Who paid for the “legal opinion” on the retirement benefit, anyway? I suspect the taxpayers… let’s also remember his annual salary was $350k. Somewhat high for someone “inept”. JFC absolute power corrupts absolutely. This man has no shame.
“Mr. James seems to have been constitutionally incapable of walking past a gift shop without going in and purchasing souvenirs that he kept for himself but charged to his employer,” Martland said… Former B.C. house clerk broke public trust: Crown https://t.co/bREmEPyTHx
🚨The Crown case is over. Will ex-@BCLegislature clerk Craig James testify at his fraud and breach of trust trial in B.C. Supreme Court?
Stay tuned… his lawyers will tell Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes at 2 p.m.
