I want to make sure I’m understanding this right.

-We need sulfur for fertilizer for food production.

-Chinese state firms are buying up our sulfur while Beijing restricts its own fertilizer exports to keep prices high.

-So sulfur has jumped from $172 a ton to $1,100–$1,200.

-Plants are already cutting production and laying people off, and once that capacity is gone it doesn’t come back before the next crop.

We need to keep the sulfur here or we start importing the ability to grow food.

The underlying premise here is that we live in a free market economy that isn’t rigged against young people.

Ben tends to emphasize “personal responsibility” more than blaming the cartelized economy we have today, and then he wonders why people turn to socialism. It’s because people like Ben speak as if we live in a capitalistic system.

Do you ever hear him talk about the Federal Reserve and how it’s the engine of inflation and debt? How often does he blame the Fed for making it harder for young Americans to have personal responsibility?

What him and GDP-go-up libertarians miss is the most important observation from Mises: economic value is subjective, and that means that people might “irrationally” value their land, family, and roots more than a cheaper standing of living. Once you get that, it’s easier to understand why resentment grows against the policymakers that make their lives too expensive.

Seeing as congress is insanely unpopular this would be the type of hail mary proposal that could save your asses in the midterms.

Many democrats would be forced to cross party lines to back it I would think. Voting against tax relief for parents would be an awful look.

Based on my research they will be in session from 9/10-9/14 and then gone until after the midterms.
