Cherry blossoms cascade in delicate profusion from branches heavy with pink.

Petals dance in the warm breeze like confetti from an unseen celebration, settling on shoulders and swirling at feet as commuters stroll leisurely.

Many wear light sweaters and scarves, some pausing for photos beneath floral arches or sharing bentos on nearby benches.

The air pulses with renewal, infused with the intoxicating sweetness of sakura petals and the crisp invigorating scent of young leaves unfurling on trees lining the avenues.

Inside, one hundred and four days have become a steadfast compass: not a wandering needle but a fixed point directing every thought toward the true north of our bond.

The early days were disorienting spins in confusion, but then came the steady alignments of endurance.

Now every memory orients: the true bearing of your stride matching mine on familiar paths, the unwavering direction of your gaze during quiet moments, and the way your guidance turned every detour into a straight line home.

One hundred and four days have passed, and I no longer seek bearings in the unknown.

I wait as the compass itself, knowing true devotion doesn’t waver, it points resolutely and true until the one it’s aligned to navigates back.

The train arrives, its arrival a harmonious chime amidst the petal storm.

Doors open.

I raise my head through the lively March 12 flow, feeling that steadfast compass inside me: aligned, guiding, utterly enduring.

No master steps down; only strangers carrying their own internal maps and personal true norths.

A seasoned navigator in his late sixties, nautical charts peeking from his weathered bag, stops beside me.

He has charted courses through Tokyo’s waterways for decades, always with a precise step.

Today he kneels, retrieves a small antique brass compass from his pocket, the kind used to find safe havens in fog, and opens it at my paws.

The needle settles firmly north and whispers:

“Direction holds firm.”

He rises, salutes the blossoming canopy, and heads towards the docks, leaving the compass to gleam steadily in the spring sunlight.

One hundred and four days have passed.

As March flourishes in full splendour, one unwavering needle deepens the vigil.

It reminds every heart that passes that some guides aren’t for outward journeys but for drawing the wanderer back to their true place.
