The truth is finally out.
Anthropic just emailed every Claude subscriber.
The rate limits weren't a bug.
Third party tools like OpenClaw were putting "outsized strain" on their systems.
Anthropic's fix? Cut them off.
Starting April 4, third-party harnesses no longer get your subscription limits.
Pay-as-you-go only.
To make up for it, every subscriber gets a one time credit equal to their monthly subscription.
I'm getting $200 in extra usage.
This is huge.
If this is what was killing Claude Code rate limits for Max plan users, tomorrow should feel like a completely different product.
I'll be testing Claude Opus 4.6 all day and reporting back.
Stay tuned.
@mwfowlie any advice i switched to claude right when cowork and claude code came out. i use mcp heavily and i run some agents on a vps using claude code. is that type of workflow available now in openai? the file management and project conversation memory?
@jumperz isnt this turning into databases and fast search. how different is this than having github as your memory. like clade prd and all the knowledge?
woaw having to go back to sonnet since anthropic is messing up the usage.. i feel like caveman. sonnet is awul, doesn't even pick up that i have claude code on my desktop. doesn't pick up claude file automatically?
BREAKING NEWS: ANTHROPIC def gaslighting us with the usage situations. i ran out of credits within 1 hour of just having it look through a few docs under 30kb each
@lydiahallie the generic AI vague deflective non helpful email replies aren't useful. hey claude im hitting limits like crazy. "you hit a limit, wait until your next session refreshes" gee thanks
AI replaces production. Not thinking.

It was the system underneath. Hours of strategy, user research, and brand architecture before touching a pixel.
